Have people all of a sudden forgotten that the vast majority of SCOTUS justices selected in history were white men? The majority of Trump’s overall judicial nominees were young white males. Even if such criteria wasn’t publicly stated by Trump, the pattern was still clearly there in his selections.

Her entire education has happened at a time when she received preferential treatment because of her race. Now this.

Doesn’t change the fact that putting people on the bench solely for checking boxes is counter-productive when those people are too goddamn incompetent to do the job.
If Sotomayor was the best Hispanic that Obama could find to put on the bench, I think that says a lot about the quality of candidates they had to choose from.

It’s a byproduct of the history of people in general questioning the qualifications of minorities in these types of situations. This of course hardly ever happened with Trump’s overall judicial nominees from the people within his own party.

The assumption is that, by picking from a very small group of candidates, you are not finding someone who would necessarily have been chosen in a more exhaustive search.
If I go out and say the next SCOTUS nominee will be a bipolar trans Hmong immigrant, that narrows down the pool of candidates to almost nil.

This is what you idiots don’t understand.
People assume that she may not be qualified not because of her intrinsic skin color(that WOULD) be racist.
No, they may assume she isn’t qualified because affirmative action has perennially elevated her above, and to the exclusion of, her potentially more qualified peers.
She COULD be the best, sure. But we will never know because affirmative action has poisoned the well.
Which is why affirmative action is racist in two directions. It discriminates against whites(and now Asians) in one direction, and discriminates against blacks in the other because it screams, “We don’t think you are good enough to get here on your own merits, only if we rig the system in your favor”.
