In that party he’s considered likeable because to Dems relatable = stupid.

These "image consultants" earn millions trying make these politicians look relatable to the "everyman". All the while being too self-absorbed to realize just how condescending they are making their candidate look to the target audience.
Case in point. Every election year you get candidates who show up in Iowa trying to portray the image of "relating" people they quietly think are just a bunch of bumfrick hicks. They wear flannel shirts. Eat corndogs, etc, etc. The people from rural Iowa may not have a Harvard degree. But they are smart enough to know when they are being patronized.
Juxtapose that with Trump. Who in 2016 showed up to the Iowa State Fair in grand fashion in his guady helicopter with his name plastered all over it. He rolls out in $1000 blue blazer and with full arrogance offers to take a bunch of little kids for a ride in his awesome helicopter. But that is him! Arrogant, flamboyant and NYC as ever. He's nothing like your average rural Iowan...but at least he's not insulting them by trying to pretend he is one either. Perhaps that's part of the reason he won the state, one that Obama won twice, by the largest margin of victory a Republican had there since 1980!

This is an attempt to make Joe relatable, but I don't know who the target audience is, old white country club guys? Ferris Bueller's dad? That's the vibe I get and if there is such a thing as white privelege, it is on full display in that ad.
Almost none of Joe's target base have enough money for an extra car in the garage, let alone a classic.
