Beto O'Rourke asks: Are the 'principles' of the US Constitution still relevant?

Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-Texas, questioned the relevancy of the U.S. Constitution and the American experiment which began more than two centuries ago during a recent interview.
During an interview with the Washington Post, the potential 2020 contender was pressed on whether he believed the U.S. could reinvent how it approached divisive issues that have contributed to current political paralysis or whether he thought it was impossible for the country to introduce any reforms.
“I’m hesitant to answer it because I really feel like it deserves its due, and I don’t want to give you a — actually, just selfishly, I don’t want a sound bite of it reported, but, yeah, I think that’s the question of the moment: Does this still work?” O’Rourke replied. “Can an empire like ours with military presence in over 170 countries around the globe, with trading relationships ... and security agreements in every continent, can it still be managed by the same principles that were set down 230-plus years ago?”

That's a hint that the new radical left will be targeting the Constitution going forward.

Yeah, screw outdated concepts like trial by jury, the right to an attorney, no unreasonable search and seizure, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion.

People died to protect this thing and it has turned this once fledgling nation into the greatest country the world has ever seen—dare I cal it an empire with military presence in over 170 countries. It’s because of the constitution we became who were are. Leave it to some arse named Beto to want to change it because his voter base is moronic enough to elect him.

They've been against that for a long time. The others are new territory.

I sincerely hope they do, time to separate the wheat from the chaff
Matthew 3:12 which says: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Has one of these leftists enemies of our country ever spoken specifically about parts of the constitution. Seems they just want to stoke flames with this bs

What progressive leftists here have made fun of the democrats wanting to gun grab?

The constitution has been a problem for proggies since the early 20th century.
It's hard to create a totalitarian socialist state when the peasants have rights and shite.

quote:Yep, and first thing is to use anything as a basis to say that it was HERTURN! She won the 'popular' vote, get rid of Trump at all costs, President Pelosi, and then ban all guns and knives like England. Then...make transsexuals and LGBTQ's rule and go back to letting the working class lose everything.
That's a hint that the new radical left will be targeting the Constitution going forward.

What he and the radical left really mean when they question the validity of the US Constitution is that they want remove all aspects of it that give the people legal recourse to resist an over reaching government.
In particular, they really want to limit the 1st and 2nd amendments. Then eventually the rest of The Bill of Rights will have to go as well.
Pesky things like due process will get in way of governments from shoving tyranny down your throat. We can't have fair trials and free speech getting in the way of that. Those 10 pesky amendments just cause too much trouble for people like Beto O'Rourke.

And these frickers wonder why a lot if people refuse to give up their firearms.

Straight up he cannot wait to have his party of deranged minds take over the country and change it permanently. Get out and vote to ensure your future is not in a socialist state. These folks keep rambling on in public about the boogeyman Russia while all the time the leanings are toward making our nation just like the socialist republic they want you to fear.

I’m not sure that’s where he was going. His reference was to the breadth of our influence abroad and whether the same principles still applied. If he takes it one way and burns down what our nation is founded on, he’s an absolute crackpot.
If he takes it a different way and just questions things like how the Constitution makes the efficient management of a standing Army difficult and how that has changed over the last 200+ years, then I agree that there are things that could be updated.
Edit: (added the below quote for clarity)
quote:
“Can an empire like ours with military presence in over 170 countries around the globe, with trading relationships ... and security agreements in every continent, can it still be managed by the same principles that were set down 230-plus years ago?
The quote implies his concern is over management principles, not Constitutional ideals. That said, I have no idea what he stands for because I haven’t looked at his positions. I’m going entirely off the OP.
