Besides oil, what does the Middle East contribute to the world?

Off the top of my head it's the birthplace of the Abrahamic faith religions which account for more than 2 billion people around the globe.

They also discovered algebra over there and a bunch of other shite.

The OP said what DOES the Middle East contribute.

Not what DID they contribute.

Those 2 billion people that follow Christianity, Islam and Judaism are the ones that are alive today.

Whether people like it or not the middle East is important to a lot of people in this world.
