Bernie Sanders said at the debate that he wants minimum wage to be $15 per hour.

15$ X 40 hr week = $600
600$ X 52 weeks per yr = $31,200

Bernie Sanders wants free health care for all and was asked how he would pay for it. His answer was raise taxes to 52% on anybody making over $29,000 per year.

52% of $31,200 = $16,224 in tax
$31,200 - $16,224 = $14,976 is your pay
$14,976 ÷ 52 weeks = $288 per week
$288 ÷ 40 hr week = $7.20 per hour

Math. It’s fascinating.

Trump will throw that up on a whiteboard when they debate. Sanders will look like this:

That's just federal income tax. You still have state taxes and SS and stuff. Actual take home pay will be less than that.

An excellent observation of the idiocy that is socialism

And, of course, let us not forget that if employers had to pay TWICE the amount (little bit more than twice, actually) of the current minimum wage, that would mean a lot less employees around to make less per year after taxes.

So it gets even worse

But thinking is hard for some of those folks.

On all off their annual earnings or 52% on earnings OVER $29,000?

You know like the tax tables usually have for tax brackets...

Ehh this isn't entirely accurate. Its combines 2 parts of Bernie's dumbass tax plan. He does want to raise taxes on income above $29,000 but I think its like 4%. And the 52% tax is on income above $10 million.

Nah, just trying to interject reality into your fantasy.

The U.S. has never had a flat tax that applies to all income. Is Bernie suggesting a flat tax or not?

52% for income over $29k is bad enough.

Are you someone who believes that once you got a higher tax bracket, it's applied to all of your income?

Have you bragged to someone about turning down a promotion because "you'd make less money with the new tax bracket?"

My dad's like that. Still brags about it to this day. It's really sad.

Tax brackets are always applied only to the money over that amount.

Can I get a link to the video or article where y'all saw this? I didn't catch the debate if it was mentioned there. Thanks.

Agreed but according to another poster above the 52% marginal rate applies only to income over $10 million.

So they complain insurance is not affordable. Say we need Medicare for all.

Then they plan to make you pay 16k/yr and up, depending on your income.

How the hell is that making it affordable?
