Ben Shapiro new article on the "southern strategy" and its misleadings

quote:
according to Professors Richard Johnston of the University of Pennsylvania and Byron Shafer of the University of Wisconsin, “the shift in the South from Democratic to Republican was overwhelmingly a question not of race but of economic growth.” The movement toward Republicanism in the south began in the 1950s as the south industrialized. Working-class whites and blacks remained Democrat until the 1990s. Here’s the New York Times reporting
quote:
To give just one example: in the 50s, among Southerners in the low-income tercile, 43 percent voted for Republican Presidential candidates, while in the high-income tercile, 53 percent voted Republican; by the 80s, those figures were 51 percent and 77 percent, respectively. Wealthy Southerners shifted rightward in droves but poorer ones didn’t.
quote:
Sean Trende of RealClearPolitics agrees: he says that the GOP gradually increased its support in the south from 1928 to 2010. As Dan McLaughlin summarizes, “As late as 2010, there were still states like Alabama and North Carolina that were voting in their first Republican legislative majorities since Reconstruction — something that would have happened overnight in the late 60s if the partisan realignment had been driven by lockstep white voting loyalties on racial lines.”

Really interesting articles he provided.
The following map of the 1980 presidential election seems to lend credence to the idea that poor white southerners were still voting heavily for democrats well after civil rights era.
Reagan won the south by tiny margins because of large support in wealthy suburbs.

As brilliant and talented as Shapiro is as a Conservative voice.
I hate how he is always too cool for school about everything.. before coming around to it.

ugh, this guy isn't a conservative and uh, I don't really care what celebrities have to say. this isn't important."
1.) Kayne isn't a conservative, he just tweeted support for the Parkland kids pushing for the removal of the 2nd Amendment.
2.) He said people shouldn't care about what celebrities have to say unless they're well versed in whatever they're talking about. But he has to care about it because a lot of people do care about it.
How was he wrong about either of those?

Liddle Ben Shapiro is an Israel first cuck.

The hatred for Shapiro on this board is baffling to me. He’s one of the top conservative voices in America, up there with Levin and Rush and y’all can’t help but bash him.

I like Ben.
I don't always agree with him. But, I like him just fine.
The hate for him on this board is a wee bit odd to me too.

Couple that with the board’s ridiculous hatred of Israel and I really can’t help but wonder if your antisemitism claim isn’t true.

Yeah, this board really hates Israel, I don't get it..

The map looks interesting but weren't many in the South just voting for a Southerner named Jimmy Carter over an actor from California in 1980?

There's only one reason he's hated: He regularly insults the God Emperor and refused to vote for him. It can be boiled down to that.

What you got against Levin, baw?
I’m not the biggest Rush fan out there, he sometimes comes across a little Alex Jones-y to me.

He’s not unfair to Trump, he talks good about him when he agrees with what Trump is doing, and talks shite about him when he does things he doesn’t agree with.
I would say that’s commendable, he’s not just going to bury his head in the sand and say MAGA!

In this board's mind, being unfair to Trump is simply thinking about any action he does and not saying "MAGA" for every word that comes out of his mouth.

ben likes things in small easy to understand packages. he sucks.
He’s a conservative voice, millions of people listen to him daily, I don’t think it’s bad of him to let his listeners know that Kanye isn’t a conservative at all. Hell, he even agreed with Kanye on his stance about free thought, I guess you’re just blinded by your irrational hatred of one of the top conservative voices out there.
