Just out of my own curiosity, and if you’re willing to share, what are your estimated costs per kid per semester to homeschool? Did mom have a job prior to the decision? (Presuming that mom will be the one staying home but please correct me if I’m wrong)
$1500/yr ($750 per semester)
We got married with the belief that she would stop working once we had kids. We don’t need her income.

You’re still gonna have to keep close watch, no place is totally safe right now.

Enrolled my 2 in private school for the 2022-23 school year. May God have mercy on my bank account. Honestly, I feel so happy for my kids, and I feel a little guilty for not yet having done this.
Congrats in downshifting from 3rd world problems to 1st world.
Ex... Your PTA meetings are about to change from gunshots near the school versus we need expanded lanes for car pool line.

can point you in the direction of inexpensive resources for homeschooling if you're ever considering that option. It can totally be done k-12!
It took my wife awhile to convince me homeschooling was the way to go. Both of my girls got a more through education this way. Both graduated college. For whatever you are lacking the co-ops can help you

Hopefully the private school doesn’t take money from the federal government or your still going to have issue. The first year maybe tough . Some private schools are a year ahead of public schools.

Be sure to warn your youngster not to get in cars with swarthy fellows who might stab her in the head on Facebook live. That's real advice.

Just graduated my 2nd from a great (academic) magnet high school. Both got a great (academic) education but both came out brain washed into being liberals.

They are ahead. I expect I may have to utilize tutors to play catch-up.

Congrats. My wife taught math/science in a rural GA public school for 8 years, but we always said we would homeschool if we could. She resigned last May just in time to start my oldest in Kindergarten this year. I wouldn't do it any differently. She's learned more in a year than the unfortunate public school kids learn by 6th grade.

We are going the private school route.
But frankly it isn’t really a choice in our school district.

Good for you, but I definitely question the need across the board. Need, in my opinion, depends on the
- age of your kid(s),
- your local school system, and
- mom and dad's ability to be actively involved in and at the school.
- mom and dad's day-to-day discussions with their kids about morality, right-and-wrong, etc.
Also, private school does not always equate to a better education; it just avoids some problems and may add others. Better off kids can just afford better drugs and are more likely to have real-looking IDs. However, the private schools that provide a superior education are generally the ones that are as woke as some of the public schools people are running from.
Of course, even after all of this work, you may still lose them when they go to college, but, it is less likely if they have a strong foundation.

This was a good read of a thread. Not sure if any of yous listen to Eric Metaxes*, but his show is Christian/Political based. Good info on the social battles we face today. I like Denis Prager show for this too.
Not sure if this will help anyone, but he did speak to someone recently about Classical Christian private schools. Here's a site to help anyone wanting to start looking in their area. Obviously more research is needed, but could be a good starting point, as private schools are definitely not immune to all the worlds craziness. Classical Christian Assoc.
I would ask any new school how they handled the Covid period, and how did the students come out of it. There are some private schools that aren't taking any accountability for students that are behind from that year. No "cares" for kids that are struggling to catchup. Example...I know someone whose child (and many others in the same class) is struggling in the current math course due to last years zoom calls for classes. Schools response is "get a tutor" which the parents don't have a problem with, but the school doesn't have the teacher figure out a way to adjust for that in someway. It's like business as usual, as if it didn't happen. At the prices being paid I find this to be pretty crappy.

Yep..often times its a trade off b/t academics vs teaching of values. Some of the Christian schools in our town were an absolute joke when it came to academics and also came with there own weird set of values.

Now think about all the money we could save by not having to pay Property Taxes for public schools if these schools were defunded.

That is a great option if possible. The best option in my opinion, we just can't swing it. California is dang expensive
You can't afford not to.
Does a hybrid home school option exist? They go to class two days per week and do the rest at home through a very organized online program.
There are numerous Christian online schools that do a great job for less than $300 per month.
