in Letter to Oregon, Washington

quote:

Attorney General William Barr said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are being hindered by sanctuary policies and said agents, along with U.S. Customs Border and Protection (CBP) can defy state rules that try to restrict them from making arrests.

Good. The rule of law needs to be enforced. To hell with all these municipal fiefdoms and their leftist proclamations.

And now lets see how the board actually feels about states rights.

The states' rights movement in the 1800's.

Now, states do still hold the rights to make laws that aren't specified by the feds. But give the feds time, they'll get to those too.

I'm all for States rights. The current law allows federal agencies to supersede them for federal cases though, and i'm more for following the law and changing it if it's wrong. I know that's foreign to the left.

As a member of the Republic, please read and know your Constitution.

Article 1 Section 8 states the the Congress has the Power to establish a Rule of Naturalization throughout the United States.

Until Congress reliquishes that right, kindly follow the rule of law.

I am all for states rights, but the ARE certain items that the Feds do have power over. That is part of being a Repulic of Laws.

That is the problem. By arresting immigrants in the courtroom you are actually making it harder for law enforcement to do their job.

quote:

When the federal government insists on conducting immigration arrests in courthouses and taking away that central space for justice, it is harder for prosecutors, police, defenders, and judges to do their job. This tactic, by instilling fear and essentially excluding noncitizens and their relatives from the courts, threatens constitutional rights, like equal protection and due process, as well as the safety of the broader community.

Sure, but sanctuary cities have a history of releasing convicted illegal aliens who then go and kill, rape and rob more citizens. If the cities would do their duty and protect its citizens from criminals, the Feds wouldn't have to go to this measure to protect them.

All for state’s rights aside from when they’re being used to protect lawbreakers.

Of course, border protection and immigration control is a basic original function of the Federal Government. It's amazing people think it's controversial.
