Do workers that stop getting paid get back pay? Last shutdown some we know only received a percentage. For example we know someone with multiple kids that will not get paid but still have to go into work due to the nature of his job. It could end up being a struggle for them really fast.

Living above your means will put you in a crunch. It's the American way!

I won’t get back pay. It’s LWOP, leave without pay...when I run out of PTO.

ETA: I’m a contractor working on a government facility.

Thats the best part of a shutdown! Everyone acts like the government workers dont get paid, but they do! AND theyre getting paid for staying home!

Technically they can miss out on pay.

In reality though Congress has always made them whole in these circumstances.

They don't have to, but they will and that's the proper thing.

I've been furloughed 4 times, been back paid every time. Did the check come on a regularly scheduled payday? Sometimes yes and sometimes no. In 2013 we were furloughed for 17 days. One check I got for 1 week the next check I got paid for 1 week and the furlough period landed a week each for the 2 pay periods. The next paycheck I was made whole. Minus a few buck because taxes were calculated different. I don't understand any fed that says they werent paid cause they should have been.

So here is the real kicker that should get tax payer pissed.

I'm scheduled for leave from Dec 24-Jan 2. I'm not working those days regardless of the shutdown or not. If the government was open I would have to use 40 hours of my annual leave.

Since the government is shutdown all annual leave is revoked. We are furloughed. But I'm still off for that same period.

We will get back paid once the shutdown is over.

So basically I get paid to stay home for 2 weeks and then when the shutdown is over I'll have to use that 40 hours or risk losing it. So I'll have to take another week off of paid vacation. over half my office is in the same situation.

Don't believe everything you see on TV about feds suffering. I'm loving it!!

BTW.. I would love nothing more then for the government to stay open. My office not working only makes for a shite storm of work once we get back. Its not worth it. Let us do our jobs. We actually do some pretty important stuff that really does need to get done.

Yes they will get paid regardless. They will also be reimbursed for any “use it or lose it” leave that was scheduled prior to year end.

Essential employee here. All leave was canceled and we are told to go to work. We can stay out, but no garuntee we’ll get paid for it. Probably will, though.
Our young folks training in OKC had to pack up and come back to the facility. All training canceled.
We’ll be working next week and not getting paid until this is over. I see this one going several weeks.
My gripe is that if I am required to work, pay me. I’m not moving all these airplanes around for shits and giggles. I and my co-workers bust our arse to move 42 million passengers around during this holiday season. Give me my check on time.
Pathetic to have people with young kids working Christmas morning and them not knowing when their paycheck will arrive.

If you cant survive a month or two without pay, that is 100% completely your fault.

Directed at Congress not Government workers as a whole. This is the bottom line. They don’t want to do the piddlin bullshite they are required in what time they do work much less have backed up paperwork, deal statuses, and whatever kinda arse kissing contest they are caught up in.

So they gripe, bitch, moan and complain in front of the cameras to get they country fired up because:
“ people can’t work so they can’t pay their water bill or have money for Christmas “ spiel and getting in front of the cameras looking like an emancipator of the people. Bunch fricking jacklegs!

In the DoD we have to go to work but don’t get paid. We get back pay eventually but that won’t kick in until a resolution is passsd. Could be weeks.

That’s messed up. If you are required to work, you should get paid. Shutdowns are much more of a mess than a lot of people realize.
