The huge American bomber planes were escorted into the Arctic Circle by Finnish F/A-18 Hornet fighters on March 6, the same day as Donald Trump talked with his aides in Washington D.C. about a possible dramatic NATO policy shift.

According to ABC News, Trump said about European NATO allies: "If they don't pay, I'm not going to defend them. No, I'm not going to defend them."

Meanwhile, inside the Arctic Circle, two B-52 bombers were on a so-called "training mission." Such missions have taken place several times since last year, often reported about by the Barents Observer.

However, drop of live-firing bombs is not everyday procedures.

Located between the cities of Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi and Sodankylä in Lapland, the firing range is the largest military practice range in Western Europe. Distance to Russia's Murmansk and Karelia regions to the east is about 100 kilometers.

I realize that yall love yall some Russia but as someone who lived in Russia all I can say is I wished they would have dropped them closer to St. Petersburg and scared my ex wife.

That’s interesting. Are you an American? What’s your take on Russia, Putin, oligarchy, autocrat, etc.?

And what was the general Russian sentiment you saw regarding same?

Yes born and raised in Louisiana. Went on a trip to Russia and Ukraine in the late 90s and fell in love with the area. Crimea is f**king gorgeous and so are the Ural mountains. Give me the Carpathian or the Ural Mountains over the Rockies or even the Alps any day of the week.

Putin is a corrupt POS and deserves to be cremated alive for what he has done to Russia. Visit rural Russia especially the Asian parts of Russia and it will make NOLA East look like the safest and most prosperous place on earth. Putin and his oligarch have stolen hundreds of billions if not trillions from the people. The sad part is they do not care. Everyone talks about Ukraine's corruption problem which is a real problem. I have lived in both countries and I can tell you that corruption in Russia is much worse than Ukraine. Which is saying something because corruption in Ukraine is pretty damn bad.

The Russian people are either too drunk, stupid, or apathetic to care. I have had many frank conversations with friends in Russia. They either do not care what Putin does as long as they can have a nice flat with Western appliances and a German car or they support him. The ones that support him support him because he is a strong leader. Basically the average Russian is scared shitless to take a risk. That is why privatization failed in the 1990s. The majority of people were scared to invest their money because what if their business failed. Instead they would rather let someone else buy it and pay them peanuts but at least they would have peanuts to eat. Frankly Russia's biggest problem are its people.

This is common in many cultures, not just Russia. People don't (or can't) get into the nuts and bolts of policy positions, so they just elect a leader who they perceive to be the strongest, because everyone wants a strong leader.

I love B-52s

Anyone else go to the B-52… bombing competition at barksdale .. I would ride my bike from my house just off base to go to the hanger where they had all the missions and stats posted .. I sorta recall it kept up with stuff real time..
do not remember to much detail.. but was cool.

It’s not just policy stuff in Russia. The average pro Putin Russian would be happy to let Putin tell him what clothes to wear. They literally want someone to tell them what decisions to make because they’re too scared of making the wrong choice themselves. If someone else makes the wrong decision well atleast they were not the one who made it.
