Quail are gone largely due to the spread of fire ants here in Florida. Anything on the ground dies here.

If science one day allowed a women to gestate a baby bald eagle in her womb could she legally abort it

So our government can investigate who shot our national symbol but can’t investigate why millions of invaders are pouring into our country.

Ignorant rednecks pushing the bravado envelope...drunk and stoned most likely. They are in a hole now...shaking. There are x amount of people in that locale; the locals know who the ones that are capable of this are. Someone will collect on that bounty...and some redneck will get the book thrown at his ignorant arse.
Of course, it could be a Commie who hates the USA. Crazy out there now.

Every once in a while I'm fortunate to see the one with a nest out here on the lake. He hovers over the water looking down for fish. The amazing thing is he doesn't flap his wings. Those birds know how to become a kite when facing into the wind.

Same here in La., T. Throw in the coyotes and loss of habitat and most ground nesting birds are done. I grew up with sound of summer quail, and the whippoorwills at dusk. Brings a tear if I were to contemplate it much. Love it while it's here.

Alaska has 1000s of them.
That's because Alaska protects everything but the oil in the ground.
Denali National Park is basically the size of Texas.
And there's one road that goes through it. And you have to take a bus to drive 12 hours through it. No public cars. And if you want to camp in there, you can only get a one-night permit and you have to carry your shite out and all your food when you leave.
It's like the complete opposite of Yosemite or Yellowstone with millions of cars and visitors and McDonald's wrappers and Bears eating garbage from the garbage cans.
You could drive through the Park and not see a single animal it's so big. It's basically just a Preserve.
Not visitor friendly.

Missouri was quail central back in the 60's through early 80's. A lot of farmers took out the breaks and hedgerows between their fields and along the creeks, planted a shite load of fescue and that was pretty much all she wrote.

While I have no desire to shoot one it isn't like they are rare here. I see them very frequently while hunting. Last year I counted 6 in one 160 acre field eating crippled geese.

We have a pair of roadrunners on our property. They have settled here for the last four years but my neighbor's cattle herd is getting bigger and the coyotes seem to be making more noise than usual at night. They had basically left the area until the neighbor got back in the business about three years ago. I'm skeered for my roadrunners.

It's illegal to shoot a hawk too. Any songbirds will get you locked up too.
Unless you're involved with "wind energy"!

It’s literally not that important.

We have a mated pair across the pasture, down by the creek. Some fricker tried to fly a drone out to them last year, I shot in his general direction with my 12G. Strange he hasn't come back for the drone.

I always liked to kill at least one mess of Robins every year. They're not as plentiful as they used to be back in the 70s.
