Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday issued new guidance to federal prosecutors on how to apply the death penalty to numerous drug-related crimes.

Sessions advised federal prosecutors to utilize laws permitting capital punishment as a viable sentence, both in violent and non-violent cases.

In the memo sent to U.S. attorneys Wednesday morning, Sessions said that some of the "appropriate cases" to seek the death penalty include murder related to racketeering crimes, gun deaths occurring during drug trafficking crimes and murder related to criminal enterprise.

The memo also encouraged prosecutors to pursue capital punishment in cases involving "dealing in extremely large quantities of drugs."

According to the U.S. statutes, an "extremely large" quantity of drugs means distributing at least 600 times the amount of a given substance that would bring penalties of five to 40 years in prison.

The Trump administration has frequently addressed the ongoing American opioid crisis, which has claimed more than 64,000 lives in 2016 alone, according to Sessions.

meh...I'll cheer when some Fed Gov politicians and bureaucrats go to jail.

HRC, the IRS bimbo, et al being imprisoned would do more good than this "death penalty" stuff.

insert "why can't it be both" gif here.

Too bad this isn’t ex post facto.

Guys like Sammy The Bull Gravano would be on death row for wholesaling MDMA.

So I assume shipments will be transported/stored in amounts that constitute 595 times the amount of a given substance that would bring penalties of five to 40 years in prison. i feel safer already.

Can we add convicted pedos, child molesters, and repeat first degree rapists to the death chambers too?

This is, without a doubt, one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard from a lawyer. The United States Supreme Court has already ruled that the death penalty is unconstitutional in cases of child rape. If a child rapist cannot, as a matter of law, get the death penalty, on what planet does Jeff Sessions think the Supreme Court will uphold the death penalty for trafficking narcotics?

This means that any LSD dealers will be subject to get the death penalty.....and it won't take much weed to qualify either.
I'm not a fan of the position, but it seems like we're talking about a pretty large amount of MJ to qualify here.

Hopefully it goes by weight and not dollar amount. We all know law enforcement values a gram of pot around $200-250.

The executives at Purdue Pharmaceuticals have gotten more people in this country hooked on drugs than Chapo Guzman, but Sessions wants to execute marijuana dealers while at the same time dining with Big Pharma lobbyists at your posh D.C. restaurants. What an absolute hypocrite.

More collateral winning.

Most cheeches can't produce a drop of piss come urinalysis time....and, when they do, it either comes back as positive ... or, in some cases, canine.

Again, I'm personally opposed, but trying to wrap my head around situations that may be applicable.

Funny how incrementalism seems obvious when it comes to guns but it goes right over everyone's head elsewhere
