This is just another liberal disavowing a problem they created.
It's really sad that they believe modern-day average Americans are unable to create wealth (the root of our exceptional society).
The walls are closing in on the failures of American liberalism.

It’s worth noting that workers with a college degree enjoy a significant wage premium over those without. (Among people over age 25, those with a bachelor’s degree had median annual earnings of $53,882 in 2017, compared with $32,320 for those with only a high-school education.
that's a pretty big fact to gloss over. $21,500 a year difference compounded for 40 years.

Does the college cadre make more because they went to college? Or because they’re a more capable group? Or both?
Also, if everyone goes to college, would that not water down college, standards will drop to accommodate these new students? And finally, wouldn’t a masters degree become the new college degree?
-
Ultimately college is used as filtering mechanism to sort out talent for the public and private sector. People do learn skills, but that’s a secondary function.
If everyone goes to college we won’t suddenly become richer.
Think of the minimum wage. If we mandate 30 an hour, we’ll just create runaway inflation.
The same will happen, and is happening, with college degrees.

The European superiority was why upper class people in New England sent their kids on The Grand Tour They were expected to be culturally educated.
Then why didn't upper class Europeans send their kids on a Grand Tour to America to be culturally educated? We were inferior. Face it.

You said European schools were better.
You didn’t say we were “less cultured.”
To that point. There was little difference between visiting a country house in Somerset, and one in Virginia. The American upper class was very sophisticated.

I taught in a school in Japan that looked like a two story motel six of crumbling concrete. 40 students to a class . No air conditioning. Holes in the floor to shite in.
The students arrived on time, respectful, ready and eager to learn . EVERY DAY. Including a half day Saturday . Pimpu Sensei was humbled.
The fancy buildings don't matter. It's the people and the culture.

And.... The best way to do that.

It's a chicken or egg argument. The richer you are, the more capable you are of sending kids to better schools.
You are also less likely to live in neighborhoods with bad influences.
That said, it is possible to overcome bad circumstances. I'll never deny that. But it's not as commonplace as it should be.

It is a cycle that will not fix itself, even as some kids exceed all expectations

So after every possible scheme imaginable has been tried and genetics win out......we must legislate equality
