I'm not being ugly, I'm saying most non-believers don't experience what you are describing on a personal level. If you do, then I'm sorry but that can't be extrapolated across the entire population.

In his defense, I don't see how they are any different than the religious who evangelize, yet no one refers to them as angry, self-righteous believers.

because typically non believers don't publicly announce that they are atheists. they know the repercussions.

Have you never been to Shreveport? It is mainly baptist and non-denom country.

My hometown isn't and isn't part of the bible belt. Shreveport is.

Not that I can recall. If I was, I ignored it and it has slipped my mind.

I've been to the city fairs, local neighborhood fairs, and other events, and I cannot recall it happening to me one time.

If you are talking about those people who just stand there and preach to everyone, that has happened to every living person in this country.

Does that actually bother you? That is like letting those crazy evangelists on Bourbon St during Mardi Gras bother you.

Have you ever been to a college football game, those idiots are always outside the stadium.

I don't get angry about it, I just ignore it or laugh at them.

I guess he is talking about those crazy people with signs.

People actually pay attention and get riled up by those chumps?

That blows my mind more than anything else. Why would anyone even pay attention to them?

Some people just have to be angry at something.

You can keep saying that all you want, but that doesn't make it true.

The bible belt is a geographical area.

Are you saying that a person who lives in Arkansas and never experiences that doesn't live in the Bible Belt?

Because if so, you would be wrong.

I lived in Cabot, AR for 6 years and this never happened to me. And all along I thought I was in the bible belt. Who knew?

The majority of Christians just do it in the course of normal conversation and are hardly ugly about it
The majority of Christians don't even mention it in the course of conversation. Nor do Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, or Shintus.
Most will discuss it if asked, or if it comes up in terms of natural conversation.

I'm receptive to folks expressing any personal basis of belief, especially when coping with stress, illness, tragedy, etc. Atheist, FSM, Christian, doesn't really matter. Where solace or hope can be attained, comfort and expression in belief can be a good thing. But, I'm much less tolerant of uninvited proselytising in any context.

that's because the majority of christianity in this country is more cultural than hardline belief.

evangelicals are a different breed. I grew up in the evangelical church.

Perhaps the more salient question is do you promote separation of God and country?

Depends on what you're referring to when you say "country." As for the American people, I'd personally like to see that separation but I would never advocate for it, but if you're referring to government bodies then yes.

ETA: It would be nice if everyone could stop assuming they know the thoughts and behaviors of the majority of X group of people.

For a Christian you sure are acting like a major dick in this thread.
