Im particularly salty about the part where our tax dollars go to renting out space in Benson Tower

This is my main issue. The notion that there was no other possible market for that building is laughable. Class A office space in the New Orleans CBD is actually at a pretty good premium.

It was a boneheaded deal, period. What he did with that space is actually sort of terrible as well. It used to be nicely integrated with the Hyatt Hotel and the Superdome. Now it sort of creates a two block wide void of nothingness between the Dome and the rest of town, except for that horrid Champions Square space.

Again you people assume that the Saints could not and would not be profitable without the subsidies which I say is BS.

The Saints could be profitable without the subsidies, but them Benson would not be a Billionaire.

I don't believe that's the case.

I would like to be proven wrong.
call me crazy but when i "believe" something, i don't wait for others to look up the data

Why "believe" when you could KNOW?

My back of the envelope VERY conservative estimate for taxes paid by the players is $13M

Quick check

Saints players make roughly 160 million a year. Half the games are played in NO so its all not taxable in La. But even if it were all taxable at a 6% rate it still wouldn't bring in ten million dollars.

Because I'm not the one telling people it's a break even proposition.

I have my opinion but I'm not trying to convince you or anybody else that the Saints aren't a winning deal for the Saints even though all the independent articles I've read clearly state that pro teams are net losers.

Things aren't going to change, taxpayers don't mind propping up the NFL, so I don't try to change people's minds.

The former New Orleans Centre could've definitely been made into something a lot better than Champions Square

I'm cool with it but it's not optimal.

The Packer HOF brings in $10's of millions a year. I think the Saints need to look into something that attracts visitors like them not saying a HOF

I'm just waiting to see how you blame Jon Bel Edwards for it.

No. But states have the right to tax as they see fit, hence the competition for businesses.

Obviously this is directly correlated to their record. So no, this does not look like a good year to subsidize the Saints.

If it's important to you, why have an opinion on something you can easily research and calculate and then actually KNOW?

I just find that odd

Yes. And all the local business that thrive off of the Saints being located here are too.

What a stupid thread.

Happier with that than subsidizing the shiftless.
