I think its safe to assume lyrics arent handed out to all viewers before a live performance

Teens buy music and go to concerts, mainly teen girls. They decide what's popular. I got over believing there was any real class left in the world long ago.
Kids growing up today will be complaining about the same issue in 30 years.

Song absolutely sucks by the way. How does it not rot the listener's brain?
Opinions are like bootyholes.

And no- I'm not a tight assed curmudgeon that is behind the times or can't relate to today's music/culture, etc.
Seems like it gramps.

There is a difference between liking the song and promoting the song on a talk show.
There is a difference between liking porn and thinking it's perfectly acceptable for NBC to promote Big Booty Milfs 9 on a talk show.

I find it strange that songs like that are pushed by a mainstream talk show on NBC.
Since when has mainstream media (music, tv, movies, etc.) pushed entertainment that is thought provoking or enlightening?

There are no standards and there shouldn't be. People should be free to chose to listen to whatever tickles their ear. If that results in producing no talent billionaires then so be it.

This is generally the case with pop culture.

In all seriousness, you do know the audience, both live and watching on TV, don't have a printed copy of the lyrics during the performance, right? Most people either change channels or just nod along to the beat.
i am pretty sure the record companies (often) pay to get their artists on those shows. I am sure NBC has some discretion but they want $$.

Of course they are free to. I'm asking where are we at as a society where a song like that is socially acceptable for mainstream television.
Posted on 12/10/14 at 1:59 pm to PrimeTime Money
Did it come with English subtitles?

Hey man, I was just following your lead when you said:

Song sucks, but hook is mildly catchy.

Oh yeah? I bet you can really relate to these lyrics:
quote:
"Let a n***a try me, try me
I'm a get his whole mothafrickin' family
And I ain't playin with nobody
frick around and I'm a catch a body "
Holy shite it's so interesting!! Check out this gem!

Turn a bitch to some macaroni

quote:Yes, but each generation is correct when they complain because the envelope keeps getting pushed over time. It's never reigned in.
Kids growing up today will be complaining about the same issue in 30 years.
So each generation that complains really does have a point when comparing to their own teenage years.

Why would a mainstream show on NBC promote a song like that? Here are he lyrics:

I don't believe we as a society have the right to censor any music lyrics. There's crap out there I avoid and you couldn't make me listen to it. However, if someone else likes it then let them enjoy.
In my opinion if a television network makes the decision to promote a song that may be offensive or is not intended for kids to hear then they have an obligation to make certain their audience is aware of what's heading their way.

I'm saying mainstream culture should not be promoting such things just like we have shunned things like cigarettes. You can still smoke if you want.

Why do you care about the shitty music that other people want to buy?
Hey brah - I was just offering an answer to ole boy's question.

Good music is still being turned out.
Meh.

Good movies are still being made.
Meh.

Even if the production of everything good or decent stopped today, there's probably enough out there to keep the average person entertained for decades.
Well, yeah, the stuff that has already been made back when "entertainers" had this thing called "talent".

I understand what you're saying but a broadcast corporation has every right to promote what they chose to promote. Viewers have the right to never view that program again.
