I'm not in anyways against AR-15s, but isn't the AR-15 platform the standard issue rifle for the US military?

AR-15 is a semi-auto rifle not used by the military 
The M4, M16 looks almost identical but is capable of full auto and burst fire

The rifle platform is the AR-15 which was made by Eugene Stoner in the 1960s. The fully automatic military version is the M16. I'm saying that the civilian AR-15 and military M16 are both on the AR-15 platform.
ETA: Several hunting rifles are "weapons of war" because of their use by marksmen. I'm pointing out the stupidity of the "weapons of war" argument because its subjective.
