Dixie Mafia ties
I never even heard of them before until I saw it mentioned on here awhile back. And for some reason I thought they were only in Mississippi. Are they throughout the south? Well, I guess I can google to find out.

I read the book. The only reason we know about it is because of the story of the killings, but the politics there is probably similar to politics in a lot of parishes/counties.

Yeah, the "and what's weird" part was meant as sarcasm.

That still happens in every parish/county with a black voting block.

We used to road trip to a whore house, allegedly run by the sheriff of a parish not too far from Baton Rouge. I won’t say where, but some people will know the spot I’m talking about.
But in all seriousness, the list of stories of small town politics not dirty would be much shorter.

And we can't forget about the woman from there who was murdered and her house was set on fire that nobody was every charged for.

From what I remember about the Dixie Mafia is they were formed and "headquartered" in Biloxi, but had territory or dealings all throughout the south.
I could be wrong though, and it was just some other loosley affiliated gang of rednecks he was dealing with.

I see there was a deputy who wrote a book on it. He claims there was a robbery in the area that night. He walked through the wooded area and passed by where they found the body that morning and didn't observe the body.. Which I don't understand why that is that important. If he had nothing to do with it then it just means it happened soon after he was in the area..

Beat me to it... And not just recently. Go back as far as you want...
Include the whole parish because Welsh has a lot of "history" as well.

How about the whole Albert Bloch thing in Metairie? Couple of cops killed him and kind of halfway got away with it. The one that's still free got arrested again a few days ago.

No question about it, its just one story I was told about, but locale politicians get creative.
I've seen politicians that will have a "campaign party" the first weekend of early voting, somewhere near the courthouse and if you have a "I voted" sticker you get a jambalaya dinner for free.

Every former mayor of Sorrento, LA has gone to prison.
The Sorrento PD was pulling over women and then extorting them for sex. Several officers including the Chief of Police were accused of so many sexual assaults that no insurance company would cover them, causing the police department to be disbanded. However, when the city disbanded the police department, they forgot to eliminate the position of Chief of Police, so a random old lady ran for it unopposed and won. The position comes with a salary of like $80k/year, and despite having no police force to oversee, the counsel had to pay her until they could vote to eliminate the position. At first, they refused, then she beat them in court, so they were forced to pay her.

Sheriff's must be the dirtiest of the bunch. I know of not one who did not become wealthy while they were in office.
Money, land, etc., etc.
