Anti Trump doctor just told me .....

“Hydroxychloroquine is only a cure in the media” (frankly I rarely see it in media but his hated Trump is for it so this anti Trump doc may be against it)
Then he said “in medicine it’s known to kill people.” (I’ve just heard of the guy that had Chloroquine Phosphate from aquarium dying?)
His final quote was ..... “It’s being used cautiously but it’s not any kind of cure but may help some.”
That sounds like crazy talk coming from a doctor? Is there a doctor on this board to explain what I heard from this anti Trump doc and how prevalent is this thought in Medical field?

He saying its not a cure, because it ISN'T. Its a treatment. NOT A CURE.

You have to monitor for vision loss and monitor labs. Use caution in people with cardiac/rhythm issues. 17 years and probably see some one on it daily on average and never had an issue. It's safer than dying. Or being really sick. Or driving on a holiday weekend. With ambulance chasing lawyers, you think something that dangerous would be written so commonly?

I work in the medical field as a nurse anesthetist and I am exposed to and intubating these patients while taking all the precautions. I was speaking with a physician friend of mine and he said Hydroxchloroquine suppresses the immune system. It’s not to be taken lightly as it prevents the body from identifying and creating antibodies to fight against it. If you are able to survive an infection, you are then susceptible to get re-infected.

Has anyone come up with an alternative. If no, this is the best we can do right now. If it is not perfect at least it saves some. Perfection is not always achievable, but if you are in the group which benefits hat is good enough.

Then why don't y'all stop it pre and post op? Steroids are worse. No medicine is to be taken lightly. That's why you don't give it without a specific diagnosis. Anesthesia is deadly. I'll guarantee more people die every year from complications from anesthesia than from plaquenil.

I’m a doctor. It’s pretty safe. Might be bad when mixed with certain meds. I hope it works out, but the evidence so far is pretty scant. But at least there is some evidence it could work.

It does have a moderating effect on the immune system, as indicated by its effectiveness in treating autoimmune disorders such as lupus and rheumatoid (inflammatory) arthritis.
However, it works against viruses like this by opening up the blood cells to allow more zinc in. The more zinc-laden the cell is, the slower the virus is to replicate. That's why the triple combination is HCQ/z-pak/Zinc. (Z-pak both for secondary infection and backup against an opportunistic infection with the immune system tuned to fight this specific type of virus).
