Anti-Antifa remarks prompt FBI seizure of former Marine’s weapons under OR red flag law

A former Marine who said at a protest that he would “slaughter” Antifa members in self-defense, if attacked, recently had his five weapons confiscated by the FBI, according to reports.
The temporary seizure came through the use of Oregon’s “red flag” law, which allows law enforcement agencies and family members to seek a court order to have weapons taken away from an individual viewed as potentially violent.
The former Marine, Shane Kohfield, 32, was not charged with any crime, but surrendered five guns, including an AR-15 rifle, according to Phil Lemman, Oregon’s acting deputy state court administrator, the Washington Examiner reported.
The action was reportedly prompted by remarks Kohfield made in public during a demonstration outside the home of Portland, Ore., Mayor Ted Wheeler in August, the Oregonian/OregonLive reported.
“If Antifa gets to the point where they start killing us, I’m going to kill them next," Kohfield told a crowd, according to the Oregonian. “I’d slaughter them, and I have a detailed plan on how I would wipe out Antifa.”
Kohfield previously wrote to U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, a former Navy SEAL, to share his concern about Antifa and voice his support for having the group declared a terrorist organization, a step that President Trump has considered.
Based on the court order, Kohfield – who served two tours of duty in Iraq -- was committed to a veterans hospital for 20 days and was barred from participating in subsequent protests in Portland.
According to the Oregonian, Kohfield conceded that he probably appeared threatening to other people, but he never intended to cause harm.
“I looked unhinged,” he told the newspaper. “I looked dangerous and have the training to be dangerous.”
The FBI would not comment about the case, the Oregonian reported. It was unclear when Kohfield’s weapons would be returned to him.
The Oregon Legislature narrowly passed the state’s red-flag law in 2017, with no Republican support in the House and backing from only one Republican in the Senate. Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, signed the bill into law on Aug. 15 of that year and the law took effect Jan. 1, 2018.

If I were him I’d stay away from my house. ANTIFA knows he is unarmed now. They’re terrorists.

20 days in the freaking looney bin for exercising free speech because someone’s feelings were hurt.
Wow, Red Flag laws are soooo great. I don’t see anyway they are going to be abused by “thought police”.
But hey, at least we “did something”.

I mean, someone SHOULD mow down ANTIFA the next time they are attacking people.
If it were my "red flag" law, I'd flag him to give him more weapons for his friends.

Great - so now when he is attacked by antifa he has to submit to the beating and hope they don't burn his house down and kill his family = while the police stand by to protect them.
This is what everyone is going to experience with the advent of these 'red-flag' allegations.
A joke can leave you in a psych ward and unarmed with a large on your back.

Exhibit A of why Red Flag laws will be a disaster for conservatives. Especially in blue states.
One more reason to believe that many of these shootings are FF's of some sort.

Did he say something other than what was quoted? His comments were maybe a little over-the-top, but I wouldn't say he looked "unhinged."

Antifa is a domestic terrorist organization. With the help of Democrat politicians and police.. they are allowed to terrorize and physically attack just about everyone, based on political beliefs.
I wouldn't give a frick about this article if the law was issued equally to all sides. Apparently it's not, though. What that guy said was docile compared to the rancid shite that antifa members spew. Antifa members don't have to worry about the government going after them because of what they say.

I'm going to go ahead and call BS on this. My husband served 20 years in the Marine Corps, and I don't know a single Marine that would just concede and hand over his guns as the article states.
Does anyone else feel like these stories are meant to silence people's criticism of the left and get in line or suffer loss of their constitutional rights?
I mean, they committed him for 20 days and took away his right to protest Antifa in the future!!!
If protesting/disagreeing with Antifa is cause for a 20 day mental evaluation, a lot of us are in trouble.

Potentially violent? Doesn't any human being have the potential to be violent?

She the ever loving frick out of that state. Take it all the way to the Supreme Court.

If anything... it makes it seem like the government is trying to weaken anyone who may be a future threat to the domestic terrorist group.
Gov is basically saying that antifa has the right to dress up in their modern klan masks and physically attack anyone they want.

Some folks have forgotten about this as well.

Exactly
Why don't you get 20 days if you say you plan to go beat the shite out of people for no reason?

I was going to go with the eerie resemblance to that time some German dictator (can't remember the name) decided that Jews needed to be disarmed, leading to mob knowledge that Jewish homes and businesses could be ransacked and burned with impunity... I think the German even used the word "socialist" to identify his country like the USSR did. So strange. But things like that will never happen here........

Evidently, one side gets a pass on this.

I would be willing to bet he has lawyers lining up outside his door to sue the federal government of this blatant violation of both his 1st and 2nd Amendment rights.

There’s no way this can be upheld at that level. If it is, the end is closer than I expected - and I do expect it.

The First Amendment disagrees. He stated what would be his defensive stance if attacked, this is a far cry from stating he was going to go out and massacre random people.
The notice that everyone should be put on here is how easily our Constitutional rights can be ignored by those claiming to uphold law.
