E-1 is $2400 per month.
As a military member you can pick any state in which to pay taxes. Pick a state with no state income taxes.
With all the other perks, this is great pay.

You don’t get to pick anything as far as duty station goes.

No. It isn't "great" pay. I have a lot more than 2400 left over each month after all my bills are paid and I'm not risking my life in the middle east.
If we tripled their pay you might have a point. And we should triple their pay or come close to that.

Then its a good thing your duty station does not dictate in which state you pay state taxes.
You can choose any of the 50 states, where you are stationed does not matter.

For an 18 year old?
Yeah that is pretty awesome.

Working in an Aircraft Maintenance Unit as an E3, 6 days à week... minimum 12 hours à day... it was considerably less than minimum wage if you did the math and most days we were so busy we didn’t even eat lunch. I own it though, I chose to serve and it was fun being aged 18-20 getting paid to live in another country.

I don’t know who told you this but it’s bullshite. You pay your home state’s taxes.

Right. I lived in Germany and had to write a check to the state of Iowa for 200 bucks when I hadn't stepped on their soil in over a year... It was my fault, I took the wrong advice from a superior...

100%
Pick a home state of your choice.
This is an additional benefit of being in the military.

You don't get to pick a state home of choice. You pay taxes to the state you're from.

That’s not how it works. Home state (place of residency) is where you MEP out of. Your way is fraud. Who lied to you?

Please tell us this is sarcasm.
Also, volunteering to defend this country is not the same thing as being a pawn in geopolitical adventurism. Remains to be seen what comes out of this, but there have been plenty of times when our soldiers were sacrificed just to save face for idiotic policy.
I’m looking at you, LBJ and GWB.
