frick the "Republican" "Leadership" in the House and Senate. Bunch of phonies in bed with JBE and LLBC. Senate Prez is just a puppet of Alario and House Speaker is beholden to JBE and the LLBC. And some of them are termed out so they're pandering for future political campaigns, such as for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, AG etc. A bunch of RINOs running the show. frick em.

That's definitely the case in Louisiana. Maybe 50% of the GOP legislators are truly GOP in their political philosophy and values. The others are political RINOs who only have the "R" next to their name to get elected.

Not all but most. There are several GOP legislators that stick to their guns on eliminating taxes and government largesse. However, there are way too few of them with a GOP majority legislature.

But look at the vote on this budget bill. The vote was 101-1. Rep Geymann was the only "no" - props to him for sure.

But 1 is a lot less than several, sadly.

I think TOPs is a waste of money for Louisiana’s tax payers considering most who get a degree leave the state.

When was the last time Democrats controlled both the House and Senate in Louisiana? Louisiana's problems are not the result of just one party.

Can we get the media or someone to ask these Louisiana politician's opinion on us being the lowest ranking state regarding anything of importance?

If they had any dignity they would be embarrassed. Left or right, they are simply self-serving scum.

Louisiana is it's own world.

A deep red state that loves Democrat governors.

Sounds like RINO's instead of Republicans.

Agree with the OP on the budget moving through the process.

Really disagree with the TOPS hate. TOPS shifted us from an institution based funding model to, at least in part, a student based funding model. Institution budgets got cut and tuition went up. If you qualified for TOPS you got to go where you wanted otherwise it came out of your pocket.

Institutionally, better schools like LSU, ULL and LaTech did well under the student-based funding because they got tops. Community colleges also did well because some of the people with lower scores could not afford a 4-year college and went to a 2-year WHICH IS WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

My only minor gripe with TOPS is that it automatically increased to match tuition increases creating a perverse incentive for colleges to increase tuition. The legislature fixed that and it now requires an act of the legislature to increase the amount (and it looks they they are doing that this session).

So TOPs is an improvement on the old "just give money to state institutions" model and more like a merit-based voucher system. That is hardly a Bernie style socialist give away.

That aside, OP nails it.

TOPS needs to be gone. The Taxpayers of Louisiana do not owe a secondary education to its residents.

It is a huge drain on the budget and needs to be eliminated.

Seriously? Before JBE. The Republicans has the gov mansion 16 out of 20 years. Foster 8 years Blanco 4 and Jindal 8. Had Jindal not been so bad JBE wouldnt have won.

Go peddle your uneducated "Dems only the problem" bullshite elsewhere. You have no clue of the BS you are spoutin off.

Me too. And I remember everyone say that "it will be different now! We have 'real conservatives' in the house now!"

What a joke. We are a populist, big-government state. Doesn't matter what letter is behind the name.

There is no intellectual foundation to modern Republicans, especially in Louisiana. In fact, they are brazenly anti-intellectual.

Responsible fiscal conservatism is broadly supported by republicans and democrats alike, when it is practiced for the good of the taxpayers in general. However, wanting to pretend to be a fiscal conservative just to troll the libs is seen as the farce that it is.

Today's Trump Republican party is all about trolling. It's empty of ideas.

Hold on there, Buddy. I've still got two more in high school. You can ax it after they graduate college.
