Another day in your "conservative" LA House...

Louisiana's House advances $36 billion budget with funding for teacher pay raises, TOPS
LINK
Once again, the state is using one-time money to fund recurring increases in spending. It's amazing that they keep doing this.
quote:
With little debate, Louisiana's House on Thursday greenlit a multibillion-dollar spending plan for next year, advancing a series of budget bills that would begin carving up the latest federal coronavirus aid, give teachers a higher-than-expected pay raise and fund favored local projects.
And another chunk of the federal one-time money that isn't used for recurring increased expenses, will go to pet pork projects.
quote:
The $36.4 billion spending plan for the financial year that begins July 1 mirrors many of the recommendations put forward by Gov. John Bel Edwards when he kicked off negotiations earlier this year and maintains a steady level of funding for state agencies.
Remember when so many on this board said having a huge majority of GOP in the house would serve to balance JBE? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
quote:
With the state's coffers buoyed by billions of dollars in federal relief, lawmakers avoided major budget cuts and instead used excess funds to bump foster care board rates, raise K-12 teacher and university faculty salaries and fully fund the state's popular Taylor Opportunity Program for Students.
Keep sucking on that "evil" federal government tit. Oh, and that Bernie-level socialist free college program (considering the requirements are basically to graduate HS and have a pulse)
quote:
Of those dollars, $400 million would go towards shoring up the state’s bankrupt unemployment trust fund to help pay jobless benefits instead of relying on federal loans. Lawmakers would steer another $300 million to upgrade the state's sewer and water systems and $55 million to cover revenue lost by ports.
Keep in mind the unemployment fund was over a billion before the lockdowns started. Why isn't every dollar going to replenish that until it's back to where it was?
quote:
The House directed another $23 million of the unspent cash to dozens of local projects. The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office would get $1.9 million for equipment upgrades, Baton Rouge's Zoo would get $200,000, the St. George fire department would get $250,000 for capital improvements and the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office would get $110,000 for body cameras.
0 of this should be state government spending. None.
But hey, let's focus on having three trannies in the state not be able to play women's basketball in the LHSAA... because THAT's what is important for us to talk about...

Only retards vote for Democrats.
And anyone who has ever voted for a Democrat is a Democrat because you can't wash the stench off.

The Democratic Party of the 1980s/1990s was vastly different than the Democratic Party of today.

I bet you think Trump was a super conservative president and you love him.
I also bet you had a W sticker on your vehicle back 20 years ago and loved the bushes

It's hilarious how much shite they gave the Jindal administration, rightfully so too, of using one time fixes for recurring expenses and then proceeded to do the exact same thing.
Posted on 5/7/21 at 8:04 am to LSUFanHouston
Remember when Jindal was the poster child for bad economic policy and criticized by every legislator and candidate for using one time money? I remember.

I think in the Deep South, we get a lot of poser Republicans- white dudes who know they have to be Republican to get elected but don’t hold to staunch conservative beliefs.

This kind of shite infuriates me. Why would teachers get raises? They just worked the least of any profession in the country and never missed a check. They should have their salaries reduced.
99 percent of all politicians are just fricking awful. It's sad.

No, they have always loved abortion and begged for handouts.

In LA?
All public schools around me have been in person since Sept except ones damaged by the hurricanes. Some did the every other day think for a few week but since have had a normal school year
All the private schools had a normal school year

I would not say Trump was super conservative. I liked some of his immigration policy. I liked his tax policy.

I voted for W twice. No sticker though. I often wonder how he would have been if 9/11 never happened. His entire presidency turned into warmongering because of that, which I did not support.

Me too. And I remember everyone say that "it will be different now! We have 'real conservatives' in the house now!"
What a joke. We are a populist, big-government state. Doesn't matter what letter is behind the name.

As long as people continue to vote based solely on the R or D next to the name and refuse to hold their reps accountable, this is what you get.

Lol I knew you were a bush fan- making excuses for him
The Bush family has done more damage to everyday Americans than just about anyone in the last 50 years
You think he was a war monger just bc 9/11 - he didn’t even go after all the people who committed that atrocity
His dad was fighting proxy wars and trying nation building bull shite his whole political career

Good point! During the last governor’s campaign J’s wife was speaking at a local charity I support. She got a standing ovation at the end because she said she “believed” in all these conservative causes. What my fellow idiots didn’t realize was she “qualified” every issue. She got a stupid standing ovation

OK...
What does that have to do with the Louisiana Legislature?
Stay on topic.

These motherfrickers don’t care, they get it, feed at the trough as long as they can, then kick the ever growing can farther down the road. Then go to parties and pat themselves on the back.
