Most farmers I know, are very well off, yet milk the U.S. teet for every dime they can and use a working force of 95%-98% illegals in order to make money by not paying a legit min wage.

I used to be all for the Farmers in the 80's with FarmAid etc, but after seeing the REL American Farmer.... yeah.... We all wish we had it so good.

There are a lot of things that are bad news that get shrugged away with the excuse of "it's just business". If it makes a few richer today, who cares if the entire nation is fricked tomorrow? That's somebody else's problem.

Then there are the utopians like Gates. Pure evil.

He should just raise his prices, according to Big Scrub TX.

Sad to see. We raise our own beef. I like to keep around 8-10 head of cattle including a bull. This should ensure that we have the ability to continue to provide our own beef and if needed we can sell one or two here and there if needed to keep herd size down.

Of course, they're also paying an extra 15.3% self employment tax on top of their normal tax rate (which they only get to deduct half of as an expense since they are both employee and employer).

Any small business will incorporate as an S-corp to minimize these taxes. I reduced my taxes $7,000 the first year I incorporated. Is there something different about farming that precludes this?

I'm right there with you. Insurance, fuel, repair and parts, fertilizers and cost of herbicides have almost gutted any profit.

Don't forget the electronic ear tags you are about to have to buy. You cam thank the crooked NCBA for helping to push that.

How we have let 4 corporations, two foreign owned, control 82% of all meat production in this country is crazy.

Nope, just that you still have to pay payroll taxes on a reasonable salary.

Yeah, because they're so full of the entrepreneurial spirit!

To be fair, I've got zero problems with people paying lower taxes on capital gains. But why tax earners more? I'm for lower taxes, period.

Any blame for them? Or is that (D)iffrent?

Of course it's different, who expects the party of giveaways to be fiscally responsible? They never run on it, the Republicans do.

Excuses.

The Republicans run on fiscal responsibility, but won't deliver. The Democrats run on giveaways and deliver.

If the people want giveaways over fiscal responsibility, why have they voted Republicans into the House majority for 22 of the last 30 years?

You actually posted something I agree with.

Because of the unique composition of House districts.

Not me, I'm for more personal economic gain whether it takes a tax cut or not is irrelevant to me as long as my financial situation improves.

I mean, yes? I think I consume more beef - both direct-from-farm and store bought than anyone else on here - and I've actually noticed the prices are lower than they were a year ago.

I would not be surprised at all if the ranch in question from the OP is reliant on all manner of government subsidies. Like someone else on here said - maybe just a bad business plan. I see from the website it involves "delivering from Northeast New Mexico to your door". It doesn't surprise me at all if that turns out to be hard to execute on - regardless of market environment.

And if it's NOT grass-fed, corn prices are down like 40% over the past year. Propane is down a lot too from the highs.
