? Some people are being paid to work on the heat, which justifies others being forced to do it?

They probably have access to hats, clean water and sunscreen, not to mention compensation.

So it’s lack of water and breaks? No problem…. 45 min work, 15 break depending on heat index. Electrolytes every other break.

And some good sun hats, which I bet they already have.

The people getting paid to do it are not violent criminals?

I’m not challenging the claim in the lawsuit. You are.

An attorney wrote it. 70% of what they write or say are outright lies or extreme exaggeration. What likely happened was a couple flying insects landed in the water and to change it out would require a drive back to the faucet. Some guys were probably thirsty and just thought "Screw it, I'll drink it, I'm not waiting."

Food and a free roof over their head seems like compensation to me.

Wrong. I didn’t say shite about their claim.

Pull the fly out and drink away. Just like farmers and construction workers have to do.

Murderers have to drink water with a little dust in it. Boo hoo.

Yeah this is bullshite. The two cents an hour incentive pay is true however. That is the going rate for field work. Lot of medication has warning about extreme heat exposure. Most inmates with age or health conditions get out of field work through infirmary giving them an exemption. With the plaintiff attorneys and imamate law library the wardens are not going to risk getting sued over some inmate having heat stroke. Truth is it is probably not much warmer outdoors then it is in the dorms which have no A/C just a few fans and open windows. It is nothing for the temperature indoors in the dorm to be approaching 100 degrees. That is also why it is hard to recruit people to work in prisons as security guards, because it is to damn hot. Louisiana spends 25K annually on each prisoner. That is the lowest in the country. Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana all hold that same distinction.

We have rules to follow in extreme heat. Can’t see why the prison system wouldn’t. Field work is your job at Angola. Everyone has a job even prisoners. Some have better than others. Want out of the fields, get into school, the kitchen, orderly of some sort.

The next step is clear. We'll eventually have a 'Prisoners Union.' They'll negotiate pay, working conditions, disability compensation and paid vacation.

Just a few weeks ago there was a senate hearing about paying prisoners over minimum wage.

I'll see if I cam find a clip

The daily reimbursement rate for state inmates was increased from around $53 to $107 this year.
