I personally think the dems know 2020 is a crap shoot and are putting out their worst right now. Grooming a good 2024 candidate. Maybe I am giving them too much credit but that's the only thing I can come up with.

These 2020 candidates are just awful. Good entertainment though.

Andrew Yang thinks that current trends will cause mass unemployment hence why he needs to be a savior with his universal basic income program. Like a guy selling buggy whips bitching about how cars will put him out of business so we need to so something rather than let the natural progression of things happen.

For instance, I work as a systems architect. I've been told for the past several years that cloud computing is going to put me out of a job. Companies won't need IT staff anymore. So far, the only thing that has changed for me is how I do my job and now with additional in demand skills, I make more money.

Anecdotal sure, however it's not like automation is been this big surprise. Car manufacturing has been using robots for the past few decades yet you still have human beings assembling cars not just in the US but in other countries.

If anything, automation will make some jobs different and create new opportunities for those wanting to get into it. Sure, it is killing off low and no skill and low wage jobs which, surprise surprise, is spurred off by this need to increase minimum wage to $15/hr. However a lot of things requiring experience and skills can not just be replaced by code as code will never be perfect.

Andrew Yang's paints a dystopian future and positioning himself as this savior of humanity is pandering with a silicon valley twist. His "Freedom Dividend" requires a lot of things to go right such as replacing income tax with a nationwide VAT, people switching all government benefits to collect the $1000 a month, and a consumer confidence to ensure revenue targets are met. Keep in mind, he wants to do this AND have universal healthcare. He can get all the economists to say "hey yeah, that's a good idea" but would require a LOT of legislation and getting everyone to agree on all of that we know will never happen.

So much for Yang being really smart.
