We would be fine with either as president.

He does address a very important matter, (the coming of the AI age), but his answer to it is pathetic, basically to give everybody stuff for free. Last week on NPR, he couldn't answer a basic question about his business performance. He promoted his venture would create a great number of jobs. He only produced 3% of what he said he would. Even the NPR was frustrated that he couldn't or wouldn't address that.

They are taxed. If you raise taxes who do you think ultimately pays?

The consumer.

He was born in New York and both of his parents are Taiwanese. No one hates China more than Taiwan dumbass.

Say what you will about the impractality of his headline proposal, the dude has at least acknowledged China as an adversary and has discussed facing them head on. That’s more than can be said for 90% of the remaining dem candidates.

You do know that Taiwan is officially the "Republic of China", huh dumbass?

Because when it comes to taking sides (just as we saw with Obama) a hyphenated American always seems to lean against the USA in favor of their origins. So if China and the US got crosswise, and Taiwan was in their crosshairs, predict who backs down first, Pres Yang, or China?

You are betraying your ignorance. The fact that Taiwan retains the title Republic of china is evidence of the islands deep conflicts with the PRC—not a sign of solidarity with the mainland. Taiwan’s population is nearly entirely Han Chinese but they DO NOT support the CCP. Quite the opposite

Taiwan retains that title because Taipei asserts that the ROC “is” China. They hate the PRC, and trying to paint Yang as being unable to confront China because of his Taiwanese ancestry is absurd.

Eta: what you are saying is analogous to a 2003 era American saying that we can’t trust the Kurds because they are Iraqi and would support Saddam.

Yeah, he may give everyone a thousand bucks, but he’s also taking away government programs that the poors leech on. That part is forgotten here.

It's forgotten because that's not how things will happen. That's never how it happens.

How many gov't programs are there? the cost of UBI is 3 Trillion dollars. -- Trillion with a T. --every year.

total current US budget is around 3.7 trillion.

You need to ask yourself, how much will a thousand dollars per month cost me?

The brunt of his campaign is pushing a UBI, which is the ultimate in government giveaways.

There are approximately 330M people in the US. During the 2010 census it was found that 24% of the population was under 18.

76% of 330M = 250M (rounding for easy math) adults who would qualify for Yang's UBI. 250M * $1,000 per month = $250B per month. $250B * 12 months = $3T per year.

That is economic insanity.

This would be doable if it replaced welfare and social security. Obviously that’s not his plan, but that seems like the only way UBI would ever be feasible.

It would do aware with welfare. But not SS.

But you still have a 3 trillion dollar a year cost. You only have 3.7 trillion dollars to fund the entirety of the Federal Govt. Help me with the math.

Yang wants to give everyone welfare. So everyone on welfare would vote against him .

Not according to his plan. Social Security and Disability would stack, and if you are getting welfare you can choose the UBI or whatever welfare you’re currently receiving, obviously you would choose whichever is higher.

Honestly, I would rather UBI and the elimination of all other programs. It’s simple and while it might require some additional revenue streams it could be financially feasible. But there is no way this would work when you can stack other benefits or still have the option for legacy benefits. Yang’s plan doesn’t reduce any bureaucracy costs, and the increase to the budget would be huge.

I'm more worried about him becoming the nominee than anyone else at this point. He has the most potential to sway independents and swing voters.

I think if he is the scariest nominee because he comes off as an intelligent guy who genuinely sounds like he has answers and doesn’t alienate opposition voters. If you notice he doesn’t bash Trump voters, he understands that they voted for Trump because jobs were being automated away in the rust belt. I could see him pulling enough swing voters in swing states to cause problems. But thankfully he isn’t going to win the nomination.

Nope. US government spending on Social Security for FY2018 was just under $1T. Welfare & Medicaid spending combined was "only" $754B.

So putting Yang's UBI into effect would almost double the spending done on Social Security, Welfare and Medicaid. That's how batshit crazy it is.

Where is your evidence for that? There are a hell of a lot of "poor people" that have Amazon Prime and Amazon Music. And they are Facebooking and Googling their butts off. Walk around a Walmart sometime and count how many poor people are Facetiming their whole time shopping.

I wouldn’t vote for him, but I kind of like him. The Medicare for all thing is a turnoff though.
