Sold our condo at the peak of COVID. It was trending way down even then.

Not sure. I know him from the music scene. We’re both bass players in different bands.

The water changes constantly. It just depends on how the tide is. Crab Island is in the bay. Probably about 20 to 30% of the time i have been out there it has looked like that. Crab Island use to be a lot better than it is now. It use to be a blast back when they had Helen Backs, 99.5 and 103.1 out there. All of those videos are old. Back the year after PCB had all of those incidents.

I guess this is why 30A is so overcrowded. The people of quality have been run off from Destin, PCB, etc.
The biggest problem is that vacation property rental prices in Destin and PCB aren’t high enough to price out the riff-raff. They’re absolutely dirt cheap in the offseason.
Compare that to places like Alys Beach and Seaside where the average rental is $5,000 for a week’s stay and you’ll see an enormous difference in the types of people visiting there. Night and day difference.

Not exactly sure how all those floating Tiki bars and crap pontoons are considered sea worthy. Destin needs to fight a little harder to keep their standards up.
Posted on 6/3/26 at 5:26 am to soonerinlOUisiana
If you type it into X you'll see they're now renting pontoon boats and going out to crab island. They're doing what they do everywhere - fighting and leaving trash. There's pictures of them there with literal shite floating in the water.
They're going to ruin it too
They're going to ruin it too

It's shallow water, so better for all the non-swimmers

My last trip to Destin was early 90s, but I’ve driven through it a couple times in the last 10 years. Don’t really know much about it, except that traffic sucks. PCB was our “go to” growing up, when it still had all the cheap cinder block motels that were considered eyesores. Now the beach is a wall of 30-story condos that are eye sores. And the place is way too over built to be able to demand high rates. They should have done like Ft. Walton. I don’t think you can build higher than about 6 stories there.

Full scale chimp out.

I’ll tell you where this doesn’t happen is in Blue Ridge, Georgia. Popeye’s workers were even elderly white folks who came out to our car to apologize for the fresh, hot chicken taking a few minutes to be ready.

Ah, you totally missed the point of my post, and sorry SGJ has put you in the pokey.
Point wasn't missed. Polk county sucks. Sorry you live in a dump.

Where are you staying in Alys for $5k?
I read the average weekly rental during high season on 30A is like $10k/week, but in fairness that includes the large homes designed for multi family rentals.
It’s cheaper to go to Europe for a small family than it is to stay in a higher end place in Rosemary or Alys during peak season.

Damn. They're in Destin now. We got zips in the wire.
Every year it gets worse and worse and darker and darker

Actually its the new hotels that they are building in Destin. That is attracting the riff raff. There is a Hilton Garden Inn just built as you come over the Mid-Bay Bridge on your left right before the Commons. There is another hotel being built on the north side of Hwy 98 i guess about a mile east of the Commons.

Soon to be coming to Orange Beach. Stayed at the newest Phoenix about 10 years ago when my kids were little. I think it was Phoenix 25 or 30…just kidding. But…we never went back. It was like little Mexico mixed with some higher class ghetto and neck tattooed white trash.
People make fun of 30A, but it’s worth the money if you just want to drive from Louisiana for a shorter trip. Most of the houses will do 3 or 4 day minimum. Otherwise fly somewhere tropical.

Thanks to our forefathers for bringing the curse to our nation…
ETA: let me be clear. I’m speaking of the curse of slavery! I have many fine friends representing many races.
