My older brother found out that an accounting degree by itself had a fairly low ceiling, so he got his MBA and is a CPA. He's done fairly well for himself.
One more exam and I finally get my CPA.

What is your point? I think this is a great career path but it requires lots of time and money just like almost every worthwhile career these days. I'm just not sure how this plays into the "millennials have it easy" mindset

In fact, you show me someone with a Masters in Accounting here in Huntsville who also owns management experience where they were responsible for more than $500k in weekly volume and nearly 100 employees and I'll show you someone I'll have making six figures before I finish Thanksgiving Dinner this year.
Sure. If they have 4-5 years of experience in Accounting. Someone in his first or second year of an accounting career isn't making six figures.
Target management has no bearing on that. I don't care if he was the best target manager ever. It doesn't translate.

I don't think you have it easy.
I just also think the woe is me, boomers had it so much easier mantra is also bull shite.
Being young and entering job markets is challenging.
Being young with virtually zero work experience makes it MORE challenging and THAT is the part I'm telling you is an ENORMOUS gap between the two groups.
But hey, before we take this as bashing. You know whose fricking fault that it? The people who RAISED millennials while refusing to let them "work as hard as I did in HS.......just focus on grades" followed by "I don't want them to have to work full time while in college......same".
I don't know what moron got he message out to so many boomers and Xers that if their kids got a .2 higher GPA but never worked a day in their life along the way, that would be BETTER for them, but frankly, I could beat my peer's arse for it.

And yeah. Maybe not quite 6 figures. But that SOB would make $80 off the street here. Hell, I probably wouldn't have to leave my building to get him $80K.

This is a good time for me to point out how godawful most people are at writing resumes.
I mean, it's so bad, I almost feel like it should be a required course in college except, I have a sneaking suspicion that college professors wouldn't teach it well either.

Again, with zero accounting experience? No, you won't.

Most millennials I know are not like the whiny millennials I see on Tigerdroppings. In fact, nationwide they are more likely to be entrepreneurs than previous generations.
Successful people find their way and realize it takes time, just like we did 30 years ago.

You can go back and read the chain of posts to understand the context here. You obviously haven't done that.

Who do you think is employed by the ever growing gig economy? Boomers?
You don't know what you're talking about.
You don't know what you're talking about.

OK. I mean. This is the internet. So, I can't prove anything to you.
But, LOL. Analyst jobs around here for $80K are about as common as fat chics in a trailer park.
If I wrote a resume for a person with an MS in Accounting and 5 years managing 100 people and $500K weekly sales volume, I would consider $80K the floor.
The friggin FLOOR!

With zero accounting experience? You'd get 55k-60k. Not bad but a far cry from what you claim.

Hell. I'm almost a bit envious of the millennials who have their shite together.
They are much more bold about taking career risks and much less wedded to the idea of staying somewhere 20 years.
Frankly, I find myself now taking some career cues from THEM!
But, I also know why they stand out. What makes them different.
An educated 25 year old today, with my personality from 25 years ago.......is a gold mine.

Ya need to get out more.
Oh. And before you say it. My wife is a millennial.

My younger adult daughter is a Dental Hygienist and makes good money. She could easily make 85k here. She has her act together. She's leaving Louisiana for Colorado next summer.

I feel the same way about a business course being required for all high school graduates. Make it a half year course. Learn to balance a fictitious budget and the like. At least learn the lingo associated with the business world. Couldn't do anything but help the students. If home ec can have classes about birthing babies then the school can sure as hell teach a required course in business.
Maybe it's time to replace those foreign language classes with something that everyone needs in their life.
