BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Amazon has signed a lease for a new delivery facility that has been under construction near Siegen Lane, the company said in a statement Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The new facility is located behind the Bethany Church crosses along I-10, near Siegen Lane.

WAFB’s Austin Kemker reported construction began on a warehouse at the site on March 10.

The new station will increase the speed of deliveries for customers in the Baton Rouge metro area, according to Amazon.

The new facility will also create hundreds of full-time and part-time jobs, paying a minimum of $15 per hour and offer a variety of benefits packages, the company says.

The 111,918 square-foot facility is being constructed by Atlanta-based Seefried Industrial Properties, Inc.

Seefried has built three Amazon centers in the past, along with several other large distribution centers.

“We welcome Amazon Logistics and its hundreds of future employees to the company’s new delivery station in Baton Rouge,” Gov. John Bel Edwards said. “Amazon’s investment in Louisiana enhances our logistics sector by providing new career opportunities and crucial consumer connections,” Governor John Bel Edwards said.

“We are grateful that Amazon will continue to invest in our talented workforce in Baton Rouge and EBR with the launch of its new, state of the art delivery station off of Siegen Lane. Amazon’s investment within our city and parish will further fuel my administration’s efforts in creating an economy for the future,” Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said.

An Amazon spokesperson says the company expects the delivery station to open by the end of the year.

LOL Governor Bumpy Head...what logistics sector exactly is this enhancing? The non-existent one? Drive any 5 mile stretch of interstate in the DFW area and there are more logistics warehouses then the entirety of Louisiana.

Either they hire an armed security guard to watch every single employee or more stuff will be stolen than delivered.

That's gonna be a nightmare for trucks to get in and out of unless they put some entrance/exit ramps on Reiger.

eta: maybe they plan on extending it to Pecue.

Nope.

It's like 650k feet per floor, 5 floors straight up. One giant damn rectangle. My boss just left the jobsite and said its the most imposing building he's ever seen. 2 full concrete plants on site

Just looked up the presser from a while back. It claims its 850k square feet. boss said thats the BOTTOM floor, and it goes 5 floors up. Obv lowest floor is largest.

That was actually SWB who said that.

Either way, point stands. For both of them. A couple of party hack stooges.

So they are doing this one as a local fulfillment center and the giant one on Cortana for the regional DC?

That's amazing.

I was in Little Rock this past Saturday. Wish I had known to take a drive by and get a look.

Cortana is off the last I heard. Amazon walked away because Dillard’s didn’t want to sell their property.

They’ll just route thru Cloverland/Industriplex like trucks do now...further fricking up an infrastructure that’s not designed to handle the truck traffic it currently gets.

Good thing its low skilled labor or they wouldn't be able to find anyone to fulfill any positions.

Amazon by itself has a buttload of them, but they are bunched so you don't see one every 5 miles.

I drive by one labelled DFW7

That’s the part I don’t understand. How will trucks get in and out of their facility and on to I 10?

The project is in EBR Parish, but not the city. And hopefully by the time it opens Broome won’t be mayor, and besides I bet she’s mad they didn’t build in NBR.
