Pretty simple really.

Conflating his actions as some type of free speech issue is stupid. He knowingly attempted to cause harm using his words.

The case was lost. Don’t need to convince me so much as I don’t have a problem either way.

But there are curious aspects to all this.

I have to ask though, what’s really changed since ? Public sentiment?

Sandy Hook & Las Vegas are 2 cases which no one seems to want to have a discussion.

Of course not.

Jones is being sued for his own despicable actions.

Conservatives need to find a better hero than Jones. It's almost as bad as the left using Floyd as a champion.

There was a lot more suspicious than that. FEMA "happened" to be doing a "training exercise" a few miles away dealing with that EXACT scenario. Many (most iirc) of the parents of victims were members of the screen actors guild. I personally saw a video of one of the parents doing a interview, but there was about 30 seconds of footage before the interview started. The parent was laughing and cutting up with the film crew until they gave him the signal, and he immediately became "all sad." Not even one picture of the inside of the school building ever appeared anywhere. There is no way the "paparazzi" didn't pay off someone to sneak in there and get some pics. Finally, and most importantly, there was a HUGE push immediately after for all kinds of gun control laws. Maybe it was real, but I will always be suspicious.

You’re wondering why there aren’t pictures of murdered children released by the media?

It starts a conversation. They change and make a few new laws to appease the liberal teat suckers. They add more gun free zones. etc...etc... Give them an inch, they take a mile. The end game is to get rid of the Second Amendment and become Australia.

The Government doesn't want to talk about them. They know that people with a functioning brain and an IQ over 70 will know they are full of s***.

Title of OP's link says....

"Alex Jones must pay damages to Sandy Hook families after calling shooting a ‘giant hoax,’ judge rules"

Sounds like this is about words, not actions.

No. He showed a level of obtuseness that is unbecoming of the Right while we're trying to get a handle on this generational slide.

Thought we were supposed to be different from the Left in calling out our own when they deserve it. Instead of rationalizing stupidity.

The right has called out Alex Jones, and that is entirely different from a court of law ruling that it's illegal to publically call a school shooting a hoax.

There's nothing surprising about a decision such as this.

The judicial system has slouched into a full-on embarrassment.

But it in no way mitigates the preposterous assertion by Jones.

Once you say it, it's out there forever.

Agreed, but this thread is about the lawsuit not about whether or not Alex was right about Sandy Hook.

Big gov always takes the most extreme cases to set precedence that'll eventually be used for less and less extreme cases.

I feel for the parents of Sandy Hook, but don't let their frustration and distress move you to allow the Government to suppress the first amendment.

You'll notice all the direct calls to violence and rioting during the George Floyd "protests have escaped civil or criminal court...

Nobody is suppressing shite.

Jones said what he said, and did what he did.

And he’s being sued for defamation, libel, and slander.

This isn’t a free speech issue. This is an a-hole who made false statements and defamed individuals specifically by making his false statements which resulted in damages.

FFS the grieving parents had to band together and sue this arse clown to get him to stop. He doubled, and tripled down on his stupidity.

Pay up sucker.

Using courts to unjustly fine someone for speech is a form of suppression.

Jones said what he said, and did what he did.

You keep trying to pretend he did something. This is a defamation suit, it's about what he said not what he did. This is the third time I've corrected you on this.

Libel and slander are subsets of defamation. You're being redundant and likely have little understanding of what you're speaking about.

Of course it is. There are several criteria a statement needs to check off in order to be considered defamation. One of the criteria is that the statement needs to be "unpriviledged". This one gives people making false claims the most wiggle room. Political commentary is absolutely priviledged, and it's why politicians and news agencies can get away with some of the more unhinged statements they make.

The central theme of Alex Jones reporting on Sandy Hook was that government was using false flags to usher in extreme gun control or outright gun bans.

He didn't randomly target a civilian and make false claims about them for the sake of false claims or for the sake of ruining their reputation. It was a critique of government action. Sure, he was wrong. But you're accepting a very dangerous line in the sand that you can be sued if you make a claim about government behavior that later turns out to be false - especially seeing how fact checking websites fact check material today.

You’re playing semantics and I’m not going to play that stupid game. He defamed those parents (an act) by using his words and false statements. This resulted in damages.

You’re trying to make the simple, complicated in a feeble attempt to defend your pathetic argument.

Jones specifically referenced and referred to the Sandy Hook parents by name, picture, and video which defamed them and resulted in damages.

He didn’t just say “Sandy Hook is a hoax”, and you know it. You’re being disingenuous at best to portray Jones’ pursuit of those parents as some type of random political statement.

I hope they get every penny they can out of that worthless slob.
