TBS, work with me here for a minute.
Like it or not, we are in the era of endless political campaigning. One need look no further than Trump’s endless stream of mega-MAGA rallies for confirmation.
Assume with me that Trump HAD used this trip as the excuse to officially announce his 2020 campaign; that he handed our troops and airmen “Trump 2020” bumper stickers, buttons and caps; and that his speech urged them to vote for him in 2020 ... all on the government dime. For that matter, imagine that Obama had done the same thing in 2012.
Would that cause you concern?
None of that would bring the UCMJ into play, but ALL of it would raise serious questions about misuse of governmental funds and potential campaign finance violations.
IF he handed-out MAGA hats, he would have been campaigning. It was not an invalid inquiry.
It was also an inquiry that CBA answered simply and objectively., without the unnecessary drama of every other poster on this thread.
My question was neither hysterical nor inflammatory. The responses were both.
If there was any “derangement” in this thread, it came from the Trump supporters.

Every incumbent POTUS has an advantage because the position allows leeway for creation of good optics. No law can establish a bright-line rule on that.
This issue is a bullshite issue. It's Fake News because there is no "legal" issue at all. Nothing that happened violated any controlling legal authority that speaks to the issues raised by the hysterical mass media.
