Yes. The videos aren’t a surprise based on the initial reporting. We knew the homeowner of the new construction had video of Arbery in the house.

I just thought it was funny that the local government didn’t want to release any video of the shooting but as soon as that is out, we get the videos immediately of Arbery trespassing.

I know when I go jogging I pick a random neighborhood I have no association with.

That way no one will bother me as I pick flowers for my mother to store in my cargo pants.

If someone commits a B&E down the street (not your house), you think you have the Authority to chase them down Forrest Gump style and kill them?

You think those guys are Justified and see nothing wrong in that video? Really?

FYI, I’m not asking if they are breaking into YOUR home. I support defending your house during the act. And yes, frick a Thief but come on.

Does it matter since he's on video burglarizing a house???

Dude, he walked onto a construction site. Do you how often people walk onto construction sites simply due curiosity or looking for ideas on how to build their house? Every fricking day. I'm in the construction industry, dude. He wasn't stealing plywood.

While I’m not a “he was out jogging!!” person, I’ve done this plenty of times. I can’t imagine I’m alone on this.

Did it last week. Wanted to get outdoors and explore a part of the city I haven't before.

hopefully this means the PD did a real investigation initially and it really was just the prosecutor being a fricking idiot

It was probably at multiple levels.

It would have been so much easier for all parties involved to tell the truth from the beginning. The annoying thing is that the fact there is the mere appearance of impropriety feeds into the preconceived notions of people critical of how police interact with black people. And bam, that becomes the dominant narrative, and any attempt to correct it becomes even more polarizing. Just unbelievably myopic.

There have been some truly frightening posts on both sides. Amazing what people will say when they think they are completely anonymous. Damn.

When his mom’s initial response to the police saying “he was breaking into someone’s house and got shot” was “oh, ok,” it gives you some pause.

Knock knock

Mom: Yes, can i help you officers?

Police: Ma'am, Your Son is Dead.

SHOCKED Mom: OMG, my son, I dont understand, he just went for a jog..?

Police: ma'am, im sorry to inform you that he was shot BY a Homeowner while breaking in to his house

MORE SHOCKED Mom: oh, ok......

Im sure most Mom's would be pretty speechless at that point.

Either way, its funny that the Mother's reaction to a fricking lie by the cops is somehow supposed to be damaging to her or her murdered son...

Everyone is in CYA mode. Hopefully that can be advantageous with regard to an investigation by an outside party.

Based on some other stories, the whole police department has some reasonably high levels of dysfunction unconnected to this story.

This doesn’t seem smart. Why would you drive to a random neighborhood, park, and then proceed to jog through it?

I don’t understand the motivation.

I don’t think it’s “damaging” to her son in any sort of judicial sense. I just think it is another piece of data that indicates Arbery may have not just been on a jog.

Even if we stipulate that Arbery was casing the neighborhood, there’s still no justification for a citizen’s arrest.

not by those guys, at least

and THEN there is the question about how they went about it up to and including the shooting part

if any of these variables fails, they're toast

Where are you getting this information? Everything I’ve read states where he was is just a few miles from where he lived and all the roads are connected so it is reasonable when jogging he would have reached this area.

To be clear, it doesn’t appear he drove to the neighborhood. His mom’s house is just a few miles away.

As to your question, why not? I like some changes of scenery when I jog. A neighborhood with a view of the river is something I’ve picked to run through on multiple occasions.

I don’t mean garden variety dysfunction. I mean police chief and three officers indicted for perjury level dysfunction. Days after this shooting.

I'd really like to know more about this interaction, because it's possible that the retelling in the news was for a specific purpose. Who is that deferential to authority? Was she perhaps coached to say something about how she always trusted the authorities to highlight some of the impropriety on the part of the police? The quote from the mother was from May 6th or 7th, at a video press conference held with their lawyers. There doesn't seem to be a statement from the mother about how she was told before then, and the press conference was held after the GBI released a press release stating they were going to begin investigating the McMichael's.
