Yea I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it on here before so w/e. Thats what happens when you copy & paste.

Absolutely true. Case law would support that assertion, as well. A school in Michigan (can't remember which) had to reform their point system for bumping up minority applicants because they were almost automatically being selected with their minority status.

I don't believe that.
My entire point is that when an academic institution says it wants to increase diversity for a better learning environment it means increase minority and female enrollment.

So, basically, what you are saying to black ppl essentially is "You didn't build that." How did you feel when Obama made that statement?
Posted on 4/8/14 at 8:55 pm to onmymedicalgrind
No, I was agreeing with you.

Oops, my bad.
I thought you were, but your Michigan example kind of threw me off.

Yeah, racist trying to defend racist institutions like affirmative action, or quotas, or diversity, or whatever the civil rights lawyers are telling you to call it these days to make it seem more legally justifiable.

The Michigan school had been giving minority applicants like 20 points on their applications which essentially guaranteed them a spot. A court decided that the system needed to be reformed because it was essentially a quota system and that AA was meant to level the playing field and not provide a distinct advantage.

It's okay bro, just take some deep breaths. Can you quote a "racist" post of mine, or do you, kind of like the people you vilify, just throw out cries of racism all willy nilly?

Actually, Michigan Law School got to keep its racist affirmative action program. Well, at least for another 25 years according to Sandra Day O'Connor.

They kept it, but the points given to minority applicants were substantially less than before. A plus factor system is alright, considering their goal was to increase racial diversity among applicants (according to the courts).

racial diversity
We all know that racial diversity is a code word for anybody but a white man.

Take it up with Title VII, broseph.

Anybody care to opine?
Yeah I disagree completely. There never was a need for affirmative action. It sure hasn't worked either other than giving us Obama. That's working out just fine.

How about good old fashioned meritocracy?
We're capitalists, right?
Company A only hires based on race, regardless of qualifications. Company B takes the best and most qualified for the job, with no regard to race.
Which company will succeed?

This has not been my experience at all. Quite the contrary, all my black friends are also frustrated when ppl automatically think "AA" when they attain more and more success.
That's kind of the point. AA marginalizes many deserving blacks because everyone else in the room automatically assumes they are there because of AA as well. When everyone else is competing like all hell to get a leg up, you can't blame people for looking down on those presumed to have had "a hand."

You may get your racial diversity but your black buddies will never get the credit they deserve thanks to AA and racial diversity.

Unless they have particularized knowledge of a person's qualifications or skills, you can absolutely blame people for that. It's absurd to say "AA marginalizes many deserving blacks" but absolve the people actually carrying out the marginalization from responsibility. Your point implies that many deserving blacks exist. Therefore, it's a mistake to make any presumptions about any given black person (or any person, really) without knowing more about them particularly.

It's called using your COMMON F*CKING SENSE.
However, I do realize that one of the main components of a demented liberal mind is the complete lack of common sense. So, you're excused.
