Imagine my shock. The top guys in the Proud Boys & the Oath Keepers are federal agents.

This Hill piece doesn't mention it, but there are other articles claiming that they have messages to/from this guy to others where they are calling him Commander & asking him about "the plan".

so one in every 234 people

Its not like having the clearance gives you access to all sorts of cool shite.
Your CAC card doesnt magically unlock doors or file cabinets. You dont instantly know who murdered Kennedy.

The security clearance isn't the point. The point is that the two main groups being blamed for this "insurrection", the Proud Boys & the Oath Keepers, are led by a federal informant & a former FBI station chief.

In early 2016 the FBI had worked with Carter Page to bust some Russians attempting to infiltrate our energy sector. A few months later they were investigating him because he "somehow had ties to Russians".
The working arm of the FBI and the political arm of the FBI aren't always the same arm.
