So....you're good with that ratio of abusers to priests? You think it makes sense and is plausible?
No, I think it very likely they have many more abused kids than they have priests they want to name. Don't you? If you hear hoofbeats, think horse, not zebra.

The abuse is not as widespread as reported. I attended Catholic School as did my brothers and subsequently my children. I don’t know of one incident during these two generations. I know there have been problems, but I think there’s been a lot of progress in correcting this horrible behavior.
I can attest to the wonderful education and personal development we all received. We were all better prepared for college than our friends from the public school system. Perhaps you should check out the achievements from any Catholic High School and compare them to their public school counterparts.

I will never understand people wanting to have sex with children

Or maybe it's just more publicized because of the large entity.
Or maybe it's just more publicized because of the sheer scale of the problem. Or maybe it is the shock of knowing the level of evil amongst us. Or maybe it is the shock of realizing the willingness to cover up and excuse evil by people who are promoted as being Godly, and some even Holy.
quote:
I think the larger issue is the one's covering. I don't believe for one second that what happens in every Catholic church is known business in Vatican City.
Probably not, but you don't believe for a second that the Vatican doesn't know they have thousands, most likely tens of thousands of clergy around the world who are or were guilty of abusing kids, do you? So the appropriate action upon knowing that is to release all known information on any and all clergy, living or dead, so that the victims may have some small semblance of justice. Are they doing that? No. They continue to cover it up as much as possible.
quote:
Yeah, I get the family thing, but you deal with it and get justice.
You don't get justice when the church is using it's money and power to cover everything they can. Think about the numbers of victims who never said anything to anyone. Think about the numbers of victims who took it to the church only to have it covered up. Justice?

I think the numbers are greatly exaggerated
Not even remotely believable. Probably being extremely liberal with their idea of abused. It’s just another attack on the church. I’m not religious, but you can see this war on Christianity from a mile away

The atrocities that Muslims commit are magnitudes worse, but you never hear about it

How many children are abused by Muslims?
Funny we never hear about that.
Was gonna post this.
Not that this isn't bad, but it is odd that Muslim rape gangs, child grooming gangs, and outright sex trafficking is not only ignored, but people who try and shine a light on it are called racists.

Part of the problem #2. This has nothing to do with Christianity. We are talking about child abuse, and covering up child abuse. To label it a war on Christianity is to deflect and defend child abusers. It doesn't matter if it is your church, my church, anyone's church. To expect and demand that any and all abusers and those who cover for them face justice should be the bare minimum for all of us.

this is pretty fricked up. Does the Catholic church have no shame? 3000 pedophiles over the last 70 years??? We're well beyond a few bad apples here.
You don’t care. Stop the charade. They are shooting kids in gang drive bys in Chicago and you don’t care. They are dropping toddlers alone over the border structures to get their parents in the country and you don’t care. They are graduating kids who can barely read in Baltimore and you don’t care.
Drop the charade. You really don’t care.
