re: Abortion issue is a powder keg - in this point in time let it be

Honestly, this issue is one where I feel like the GOP/Conservatives have wind in their sales. Most other issues like Gay Marriage, Healthcare, Immigration, it’s like we’re playing defense.
With the advancement in science and the ability to see clearly what’s going on in the womb, the pro-life argument just makes too much sense. At minimum, we’re trying to protect a life. The Left resorts to hyperbole like “controlling women’s bodies” that really doesn’t mean anything in reality.
The narrative, the science, and the moral high ground now belong to the Right. Time to keep forging ahead.
I agree. I'm very tempted to caveat and say "well if the country isn't ready for it we're likely to endure a pro-abortion backlash." But ultimately, if these laws have the desired effect, even temporarily, isn't that the point?
I know there are political calculations at play, but at the root is increasing the value placed on human life.

December 2012, Sandy Hook school shooting.
Conservatives. "If we ban guns, people will just find a way to get them!"
May 2019.
Conservatives. "We must ban abortion!"

I don’t worry about the collective. I only concern myself with the collective when the collective effects me and my bottom line, my quality of life-dudes in chicks bathrooms, and the like.
Otherwise, you people are your on as far as I am concerned.

It's amazing to watch a group of people construct their own demise by standing up for the people who will ultimately replace them and what they cherish
A more noble act, we'll never see

Can they truly fathom the implications of that logic???. That is the question. I'm guessing not.
Should their plans come to fruition. Do they really think the hundreds of thousands of underprivileged, poverty stricken, and likely minority children that will suddenly flood the system will grow up to be dye in the wool conservatives? If so, then they are seriously deluding themselves.
One day they are going to look around and have the audacity to say..."My God. What happened to the America I loved!?!"

That's an acceptable trade-off for them, though, because this is well and truly about the sanctity of embryonic life, and not at all about controlling a woman's body and sexuality. That's why the law also outlaws fertility clinics that routinely harvest and fertilize multiple eggs to ultimately use the most viable for implantation.
What's that? The Alabama law doesn't actually outlaw that practice and still allows fertility clinics to literally throw away hundreds to thousands of viable eggs, because " The egg in the lab doesn't apply. It's not a woman. She's not pregnant"?
Huh, that's interesting. It's almost like that's completely inconsistent with what proponents say the law is for, which is to protect the sanctity of all unborn life. So the law only applies when it comes to a woman who's had sex, and not in a blanket fashion to all embryos? That's weird.

As I've said, I don't have strong convictions either way. I don't like abortion. But the rates are coming down naturally every year without draconian laws being enforced. This is such a weird windmill to tilt at, right now, especially. Making this a priority right now could literally cost them an election.

They want SCOTUS to intervene in one of these cases. They want one of them kicked up to the high court, that's why they are worded so extremely.
Speaking strictly in political strategy terms, it's an incredibly stupid play by Conservatives.
They should stick with the economy and immigration reform. Even I can begrudgingly admit Trump's economy is good right now. They can win 2020 on that.
But they just can't help themselves from kicking the hornet's nest of abortion. Perhaps they feel obligated to do something for evangelicals after they got in bed with Trump's immoral arse.
What many people on both sides of the argument fail to understand is IF Roe V. Wade were to be overturned it would simply make abortion a state's rights issue. Effectively changing very little, other than requiring a short trip to a state that's not batshit crazy.

These backwards arse southern states have no concept of strategy. Probably why we lost the damn war.
Just wait until after the election to ramp up this rhetoric

No, they dont. The body in question is not the potential mother. They would love to permanently frame the debate that way though.

So, 100% chance this is a good move for the Republican party.

So you don't think aborting babies, not fetuses, after being born, is something we should keep our mouths silent about? I sure as hell don't.
