You've learned an important lesson today. Sometimes people like different things than you. Well done!

That is what is sort of comical about this. She is not an historical figure - she is a mythological character.
There was a trojan war and homer wrote a story about it
How much is fact and fiction we will never know

Homer wrote about it 400 years later.
There would have been extremely little "historical fact" about it by the team he wrote it, just a lot of stories and legends passed down mostly orally

The idea that the Odyssey documents history seems wild, given how obvious it seems to me to be a work a work of fiction.
But yeah, I guess some people do believe in the historical accuracy of Zeus impregnating mortals, among other things.

The cyclops might give a pretty clear indication of how seriously to take the story as some historical artifact. And you don't need to see the movie to know about it.

it worries me how many people including Elon Musk called this movie "historical"

The basis of christianity is god impregnating Mary via immaculate conception.
I think the vast majority of the odyssey is fiction but some characters are likely real people

Too fricking stupid to know the difference between banter and a meltdown. Not surprising.

It's not even what the movie was about
The movie is about a modernized, dumbed down version of perhaps the greatest epic ever told.
The modernizing and dumbing down is why I am not interested.
But, if whitewashing was bad, blackwashing must be bad. There is zero percent chance that Helen was anything but SE European. Even the Greeks themselves were up in arms about the casting choices. As far as I know, not a single Greek was in it.

Yeah. Some people are attracted to ugly women. But then I’ve known that at least since the Clintons became famous.

It has to do with the bigger issue of the agenda behind it, but you're too much of a dysfunctional idiot to see it.
Seriously, what a disingenuous putz you are.

Understood.
I think maybe a better way to put (in my mind) is to say we don't know what Homer's intent was. He may have been thinking he was writing history. I have no idea. I have no idea if Homer even had a concept of history, at least in the way we do.
Most Christinas, of course, believe the Gospels are documenting history - and it is likely the Gospel authors felt that way.
Anyways - I don't like the DEI mandates at all. But making Helen of Troy African or black just doesn't bother me. Oddly enough though, to show my inconsistency, I probably would bitch and moan if they make James Bond anything but a suave native Englisman.

Good point. Where is the bitching about that?

I don't see how. People decry DEI all day everyday on this site.

Pretty sure it was always understood as fiction

So there would be no pushback at all if we made the Noble Mantis of Bushman mythology a white dude?

Get ready. The next Bond is not gonna be an indigenous Brit.
