I would like to see the Southeast States combine with Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

The only real liability would be Oklahoma.
Arkansas produces more food and grain and cotton than Texas can think of, snd LA has the better off shore locations.
That country of four states would actually be pretty rich with resources and farmland.

There are more white and Asian liberals in Honolulu alone than there are native Hawaiians on the entire planet. Hawaii would join California in a heartbeat in the type of scenario contemplated by this thread.

Short term solution. Easiest solution would be city-state status for big cities. Counties and even smaller units should be free to secede. If we had Swiss Constitution, there would be over 1000 states. Kinda depressing when you think about it.

The problem with all proposals like this is that our division is not really state by state. It is urban vs rural. Illinois is a deep blue state but outside of Chicago and the suburbs, it is deep red.
Once upon a time back around 1787 a bunch of really smart guys figured out how to coexist with this exact same divide. I pinpoint many of our current problems on changing to direct election of Senators instead of them being appointed by the state legislatures.
We no longer really have a bicameral Congress. We have House and House +. Fix that and much of the current idiocy disappears

Yeah. Controlling most of the continent's natural gas, a good chunk of it's oil and related infrastructure, and having the three of the largest ports in the country (Baton Rouge, South Louisiana, and New Orleans) is a liability.

Texas produces the most cotton in the US and it's not even close. Arkansas, by far, is the largest producer of rice.
