A Delicious Melt -- "The Daily Caller’s doxxing of Sleeping Giants was a dick move"

Background:

About 2yrs ago an ad exec founded a shadowy group, the Sleeping Giants, to shut down conservative voices through extortion of their advertisers. It operated in anonymity. The group played dirty. It played aggressively, and until now, it cowered unassailable in the shadows as it did extreme leftist bidding.

Through its actions, the group attacked several rightist targets It severely impacted their financial resources in part by outing names, addresses, contributions, etc of CEO's, Board Members, and others. All anonymously. All under the auspices of "grass roots". You may recall the Laura Ingraham - Hogg BS several months back. The attack on LI, getting her advertisers to pull ads, was the work of Sleeping Giants.

The anonymity ended yesterday. The Daily Caller (a likely future Sleeping Giants' target) outed the founder as Matt Rivitz. Suddenly the worm has turned. Folks are tracking Rivitz's associates and giving them the Sleeping Giant treatment.

What's good for the goose, apparently is not good for the gander though. The response by Rivitz supporters is thick with irony. It is exquisite.

The Daily Caller — a right-wing news site founded by Tucker Carlson — today published an article doxxing one of the people behind Sleeping Giants, a social media campaign asking companies to boycott advertising on alt-right website Breitbart.

The article’s purpose, it would appear, is to expose the personal information of the founder of Sleeping Giants. However, its author is either ignorant or malicious – he also included the founder’s wife’s name, the name of one of her Facebook friends, their location, former employer, and a former school: everything a bad actor needs to wage a harassment campaign.

Perhaps it wasn’t the author’s intent to sic people with ill-intent on an enemy of Breitbart. But, in 2018, you have to wonder how daft a journalist would have to be not to understand the implications of such an act. It further boggles the mind to suppose such complete ignorance would also extend to whomever does the editing and approvals at The Daily Caller.

And, it’s apparent the author knew Sleeping Giants wanted to remain anonymous, so there had to be a conscious decision made to write the story anyway.
