Personally I do believe many businesses are taking advantage so although this woman is ugly af, she has a point.

Almost everything you buy now is more or less almost doubled in price yet the justification for that percentage increase isn’t not can’t be justified.

Not only does minimum (living) wage raise prices, it keeps people out of the workforce.

remember pre-pandemic going to five guys with my wife, no pics. Anyway, two burgers, fries, and milkshakes. $30 some odd dollars. I said to the kid behind the counter, what? Holy shite.

My wife got mad at me for my language.

We haven’t gone back. And won’t.

$15/hr minimum wage has consequences.

I remember a burger, fries and drink at 5 Guys was around $15 fifteen years ago. It's always been high.

Everybody’s talking about it. Seriously. Literally.

Like anyone’s gonna give any Democrat at all in 2024 the benefit of the doubt again and a second chance. Landslide against them incoming. Those midwestern housewives had to give up their weekly manis and pedis with the girls due to significantly strained finances.

In her defense, I got two burgers and two fries and yeah it’s around. $45 at five guys maybe two years ago
Damn, doesn't seem that long ago that Carls Jr had the Six Dollar Burger with the hook being that $6 was a crazy price for a burger and actually selling it for $3. I passed them the other day and they had a big promotional banner advertising 2 for $10. I've turned into the old guy that used to tell me about 10 cent burgers when I was a kid.

We're done. We're absolutely done. We're going to start cooking at home. We're going to start just brown bagging lunch everyday".

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Maybe some will, but not enough to affect the bottom line of these major food joints.

Hopefully everyone proves me wrong, but I just don't see it happening. People have been brought up in a "hustle culture" where it's far more fast and convenient to do grub hub or doordash than it is to actually cook for yourself or even pack your own lunch for work, no matter the cost... And if they decide they do want to start packing their own lunches, just wait until they see their total at the grocery store, especially if they think they're going to eat nothing but "organic" green foods.

Do they not put prices on the menu? How can you be surprised when you get the ticket? I've heard they are good but unless I am in a hurry and need a drive through, I can do as good a job at home. But just in that picture, I see at least two meals out of that one. No one needs to eat that much in one sitting. Prices are outrageous but one should know what they are getting into. Geez!

I haven't been back to 5 Guys since peak scamdemic when I was doing some "essential worker" work in Phoenix in July 2020.

You could go inside their air conditioned restaurant to order but you had to eat outside in the 107F heat.

Restaurants are in the business to make a profit. Their prices are not arbitrary. If the food is top notch, people will pay top notch prices. If the food is inferior, then the prices will be lower or the restaurant will go out of business altogether. Obviously, enough people are willing to pay $42 for two servings or they would have dropped their prices. The customers are driving this.

If it’s Wendy’s , MD, etc you’re probably paying about the same. We always share a fry and they give you plenty. Not sure why 5 guys gets bashed. Best fast food hamburgers and fry’s. Plus they get your order right and fresh.

I’ve never understood the “businesses are being greedy” whine. Is the customer being greedy by wanting to pay as little as possible? If someone has a going out of business sale are you being greedy by taking advantage of their misfortune?

Buying something is a business transaction. If you don’t like the price don’t buy it.

I mean this with purely positive intentions - you should re-read the post, maybe grab a sausage biscuit or two, freshly squeezed orange juice, smoke a cigarette even if you’re a non-smoker, and begin anew.

Fine, if I misinterpreted it then that’s squarely my bad. But are your return intentions purely positive as well? I’m catching some negative vibes.
