PRESIDENT GEORGE WASHINGTON GAVE HIS FAMOUS FAREWELL ADDRESS, LEAVING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE A PARTING GIFT OF 20 PROPHETIC WARNINGS.
• Be vigilant, people will seek to use the government for selfish ends.
• Avoid overgrown military establishments; they are hostile to liberty.
• Prevent all obstructions to the execution of the laws.
• Control bureaucracies; make sure they all work together.
• Avoid political parties; they will cause divisive factions and unscrupulous men will use them to undermine the government.
• Give allegiance to the Constitution; improve it as necessary.
• Do not alter the Constitution lightly, or based on hypothesis; apply the experience applied when it was created.
• Be suspicious of administrators; they may serve themselves rather than the people.
• Watch for consolidation of power in any department of government.
• Preserve existing checks and balances and add more where power needs to be checked.
• Religion and morality are essential to create the virtue necessary to preserve the union.
• Promote widespread education; democracy requires literate citizens that understand the system of governance and take responsibility for themselves.
• Avoid debt; and immediately discharge any debt created by war.
• Taxes are unpleasant; government spending should be candidly conducted.
• Cultivate peace and justice toward all nations.
• Avoid alliances and maintain neutrality among nations.
• Avoid dependency; a weak state that allies with a stronger state will become its servant.
• Real patriots will resist intrigues, while dupes will surrender to interests.
• In trade, give no nation a favored nation status.
• Be guided by principles, not interests.

Every single one of his warnings have been ignored. Sad
We have gone from George Washington to Joe Biden

By far the greatest president in our nations history.
This country lost its principles years ago. Just hit rock bottom in the past 2.

Any list of greatest Americans or greatest presidents that doesn't have Washington at #1 is wrong.

My favorite political speech, bar none. His tirade against political parties should be required reading in every civics class.
"However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion."

This is why the demonization of the founders as racists. If we thought about limiting government scope and power the way they did in the 1790’s, the forces trying to undermine our country wouldn’t be able to get a foothold.

I know you guys say this, but the made this country to be of European ancestry only. That was the law when he was president. He said those things with having a country with the disposition of European traits and personalities. They talked openly about the negatives of other races/religions. Are you ok with doing stuff like making the only citizens white Europeans? Because that is exactly what they believed it should be.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

When you have actually fought tyranny and risked your life and the lives of all Americans, you tend to be very passionate about not going back to that.

George Washington was a great man, easily the best president we have ever had, but he was being pretty disingenuous when it came to warning us about the growth of political parties. The Federalists and Anti-Federalists had been dueling each other since the days of the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Washington's farewell address was published in 1797 - some 10 years later. The parties had already been formed and a fairly divisive election had just been waged between the warring factions several months prior.

I'm OK with promoting western European culture, civilization and Christianity as our guiding principles. Western culture is superior to all other cultures bar none. If you can name the one that is more superior, please do so.
and that has nothing to do with skin pigmentation even though I'm sure you assume that.

There were free blacks and Native American property owners even in 1797. We wanted citizens of a free Republic and always have. Not freeloaders and manipulators. Washington's words, character and strength are for all.

I enjoy a good “throw the baby out with the bath water” argument as much as the next person, but you and people who think like you are the reason the country is in the dumpster where it is.
You will likely never agree 100% with someone’s views. That doesn’t mean you should toss out every idea they ever had.

Oddly enough, if you read the full text, I'd guarantee that 75% of Americans could not understand half of what he wrote. Not because it was written in such a way so as to be indecipherable, but because it would just be over their heads intellectually. Frankly, we could use the ability to read and explain that as a litmus for voting...

I'm saying what the founders said. Not my interpretation of it. I'm just asking if you guys actually want what the founders wanted or if you want to cherry pick stuff with romanticized eyes because you don't like where we are now.

Are you trying to discount this wisdom because of that? I don't see anything in Washington's advice that wouldn't apply to the melting pot that we've become.

Limited federal government that lets states govern themselves for the most part? Hell yes I want that. The needs of people in Nebraska are different than the needs of people in Massachusetts, for example, and they should be allowed to do things differently.
