Retard, there is enough oil, natural gas, coal, etc. to last thousands of years. Besides, and I'll say it again, what do you think will need to be used to generate the electricity that will need to be used? It's not unicorn farts, idiot.

This is a push by the political class and elites to force a way of life on the populous that will allow for easier control. Pull your head out of your fricking arse.

Oil comes from decomposed carbon based organisms. It is constantly being generated, and we won’t get close to using it all up in our lifetimes.

The cost of extraction will keep going up.

We don't have thousands of years of recoverable oil. No one thinks that.

I do like how we're that dick who spent many decades using fossil fuels to build up our society, and after we became a legit first world nation through and through, we preach about how horrible fossil fuels are, and demand that other countries stop using them.

China for example has 1.6b people, and are currently in the middle of building up their society... and we and the other dicks who have already built all our shite up, are spearheading the demand for countries like China to stop using fossil fuels.

Can you articulate how this will be achieved? Or is it just retard shite that you regurgitate?

We have at least one hundred years of oil that we know about. Do you realize how much of earth hasn't been explored? We have no clue what we have.

That's assuming consumption stays flat. If we don't seek out other energy methods consumption increases as population increases and countries become more developed.

Nope. That industry cannot and will not operate at a reduced capacity. Once the profitability goes away so will production. That's just how it works.

I think if there is a demand for oil for product mfg, there will be a price that will generate supply. With most oil being used for transportation, the demand will be significantly less so less producers. I think the market will balance and there will still be some production to meet the demand. The idea that we just wouldn't have anymore oil to make essential products doesn't compute.

It's likely that we will naturally become less dependent oil because it will become the less economic means of transportation. That's essentially an inevitably at this point.

Yeah we will try then until we decide they don't work.

As you can see, there are 4-5 countries that mean anything. The rest couldn't move the needle if they quit using fossil fuels tomorrow. On the the other hand, China is both in the best position to do something and likely cares the least.

This is all for nought.

Until the “inevitable” other power source shows up in a way that shows itself to be anywhere near as economical to use or store, petroleum is going to remain the winner.

The whole “peak oil” push was based on the idea that the recoverable reserves out there were all that was ever going to be and that we were just going to dwindle in supply.

Turns out improvements in tech made it possible to recover oil previously thought impossible to tap or economically impractical to tap because R and D exists to look at potential issues down the road and how to handle them.

China is by far the largest producer of hydroelectric power, electric vehicles, and solar panels. They still consume a shite ton of fossil fuels energy because they have over a billion people. EV adoption is growing rapidly in China but it takes time to displace the existing ICE vehicles.

It's likely to happen by the end of the decade. This isn't something that's far off in the distance.

So Western civilization can't exist if more people install solar panels and drive electric vehicles?

Do you live under a rock? Look to the west and see how this is already playing out in California. Newsom's executive order N-79-20 in California forces all cars and passenger trucks to be emissions free by 2035. So, in order for this to happen every individual in California will have to be driving an electric vehicle by 2035 or be out of compliance with that executive order. Just this past summer that piece of shite Newsom asked Californians to not charge their electric vehicles because the grid was about tapped out. So, they want vehicles with no emissions(electric) and to reduce fossil fuel consumption(which is needed to produce the electricity) all the while not doing a fricking thing to increase the electrical grid capacity and you don't see the dots connecting on this? It will be as easy as flipping a fricking switch and you completely immobilize the populous. What does this do the populous? It makes them live in a state of fear. What's easy to do to people that live in fear? CONTROL THEM!!!
