Will there be someone willing to “assist” in every case? What if there isn’t?

Yes, I am serious. And while I know you’re embarking on a “Oh my god, this bitch wants the government to decide life and death in everything!” mental space, when we grant government the power to enact a death penalty, we give it that right. It’s the only entity that gets to decide whether or not murder is self-defense or murder was murder. It also gets to decide whether we get to be free or spend our lives in prison.

Don’t be disingenuous and act like you don’t know what I mean.

You really think doctors won’t be willing to do this?

Somewhere in the world, some doctor will be willing to assist.

Thy government doesn't decide that. An independent jury of your peers does. And I don't believe in the death penalty.

That's not where I was going. You should be extremely careful and cynical about any power granted to the government.

It clarifies the tragedy of Rape and its long term destructive experience. Very sad indeed.

PTSD can be extremely challenging to live with and can impede one's ability to grow and mature without continued suffering over ones life.

Periodic depressive experiences with PTSD are to be expected but most experience enough relief to let go of suicide as an alternative, but still there is a percentage who consider this daily as a solution to the tragedy they experience daily.

Just an incredibly sad story. There may be more to it than has surfaced though. e.g., She had a long-term feeding tube in place in one of the photos. So either she refused to eat or she was suffering from something in addition to depression/ptsd.

In the US if a child can legally decide its gender at young’s ages, then they should be able. To decide whether or not they want to commit suicide.

With that said, I don’t believe they should have either right until 18.

God can tell us all what to do with our bodies and He has. We can relay that message.

Everyone knows there is a God and our lives bear this out every day. Those who do not profess God suppress the knowledge of Him.

God’s law applies to everyone whether you want it to or not.

I once read a book called the Devil’s Picnic by Taras Grescoe that, among many other discussions, makes a pretty good libertarian argument for legal euthanization. If you think about it, and regardless of any moral considerations, it’s the ultimate expression of individual liberty.

That said, 17 seems entirely too young for this. The U.S. doesn’t even let 20 year olds drink a beer. Surprisingly, 17 is actually on the older end insofar as the right for Dutch kids to be euthanized goes:

quote:
Children as young as 12 can legally seek to be euthanized in the Netherlands, but a doctor must first determine that the patient’s pain is unbearable before they can be accepted.

I don't expect the OP to ACTUALLY read up on this case but she wasn't euthanized. She stopped eating and drinking and the doctors finally after this had been going on for years decided to not forcibly feed her anymore. The officials spent years trying to help this girl but in the end she really did want to go.

This is a real slippery slope.

We're already allowing mothers to kill their unborn babies because of "convenience". And now we're extending euthanasia long beyond end-of-life situations to where we can pay someone to kill us because we're too cowardly to do it ourselves.

What's next? Mandatory euthanasia at 30 in the Carousel?
