As a disillusioned Georgian I signed up and attended the meeting. I wish I could vote but if somehow Texas pulls it off count me in.

You have a LEAVE vote from me. Y’all are going to have to be laser focused on a specific theme to have a chance and not let it just become some right wing thing. I think leveraging the attack on energy and guns (when it comes) is what I would recommend. Those are the two issues that liberal Texans probably agree with the most

You guys keep firing this talk up when dems are in the WH but you'd have a better chance of getting an amicable split if someone like Trump was in charge.

It is the only time the subject gets much play but the Texas Nationalist Movement has a long history and is gaining an accelerating amount of momentum.

Not sure I follow. Texas businesses would drill Texas land and contract with other countries, same as US operates now. The difference: No prohibitive, devastating national laws.

I’m simply meant that if a big concern is the drilling ban on federal land, Texit would do nothing to resolve that complaint unless the federal land within the states borders was given up by the US.

What's the deadline to accept new residents? Real question.

Ahh, gotcha.
Thanks for clarifying.

A quick search says only 1.8% of Texas land is federally owned.
According to the Bureau of Land Management (the original BLM) ... in Texas, 429,232 acres of federal land were leased for crude oil and natural gas development in fiscal year 2014 (I can’t find data more recent than 2014; can’t imagine it’s changed much, if at all).

So I guess in a nutshell, Texas would have to negotiate a land purchase agreement with the US to acquire that land, or work out some other deal whereby the US maintains surface rights (no clue who owns the mineral rights?) to that land?

I honestly don’t know.
Pure speculation on my part.

These boys sound serious. I’m jacked up reading that
It is role play like a Renaissance festival. This will never pass. Not a single Texas lefty, of which there are millions, will vote for it and maybe 30% of moderates and conservatives would support it. It would get crushed.

It would be nice to see, but all of you are going to get all jacked up for this only to be let down again, because you can't see the big picture.

If Texas even comes close to doing this, I will move back and help the next time around.

If Texas does this, I'll immediately apply for citizenship as a former Texan.

I can’t imagine there is one—at least not until independence is gained.
At that point, the only real discussion I’ve seen about immigration to Texas has centered around an LINK ]Australian-like points system.
I would think defining that process would be a legislative priority of the new government.

There are probably 20 yes votes on this just in my family that are in Tx, and if it happened the rest of my family in LA would be heading west.

Gotta start somewhere, Jake88.
And with a majority of support from the right and center, 30% support (the previous poll number) from the left could be more than enough to tip the scales.

You fail to realize that when push comes to shove people would be scared shitless to make that large a move. They can talk a ton of stuff, but many are probably more government dependent than you realize and will not give up the tit readily. You'd need tens of millions of well off people to pull this off. Not some middle class guys who talk shite but are checking their mail boxes daily for their stimulus checks.

I may have misheard that, Jake.
He could’ve been referencing the $2.3 trillion coronavirus relief bill?
(But that doesn’t include foreign aid)
I was typing like a fiend and not really processing all that was said.
If I’m wrong on that, it’s on me.

The audio is available, FYI.

I can’t and won’t debate what hasn’t happened; that’d be foolish of me.
Obviously the official vote count/support remains to be seen.
It wouldn’t at all surprise me if we don’t hit the goal this round; nor would I be surprised if we did reach the 50+1 threshold.
But we will arrive there eventually.
