Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees - Anybody seen one?

While hiking on the Wild Azalea Trail near Alexandria two or so years ago, I went off trail for a bathroom break and noticed a small marker on a tree:
I got home, Googled it and found:
LAPurchaseCypressLegacy.net
In their inventory (PDF file), it looks like they'd identified about 60 or so of these trees.
Anybody come across one?

I know where there are some 200yr cypress in Concordia parish, aren't registered though.

don't you have to cut a tree to know how old it is?

AlxTgr — It wasn’t very far off trail. I’d guess about 200 feet since I was going to pee, but my memory could be off here. I’m not sure I could find it again if I hiked the trail again, haha.
GREENHEAD22 — I wonder if it might be worth trying to get some of them registered?

TigerDeacon — What do you mean “for now?” Do you know of plans to cut down a 200+ year old cypress (cause that’d be a real shame, imho)?

Take a core sample and put it under a microscope and count rings. Hell, I even know of some 200 year old ones that are only 20ft tall

The problem is when you get to a tree that's alive and really big, it's usually only there because it was hollow whenever the area was cut. Core analysis on a hollow tree is not accurate, therefore you'll see a lot of the ages of the trees as "300-1000 yrs" or something like that.

Gotta take the samples from higher up then. Most of the old growth cypress trees I've seen have some defect that caused them not to be cut. Some of the good ones were purposely left, and some were in places where it would be too hard to get them out.
I forgot to add that you dry the core samples before you look at them. A lot of trees have false rings, so it makes it tough

Well, I'm not a tree-ologist by any means... I'm not sure I have an answer to that, honestly. Counting the rings is the only way I'd know to figure a tree's age.
From their website though:

Size of trees depends greatly on location, access to nutrients, and other ecological variables. Depending on these variables, cypress trees twelve feet or greater in circumference at breast height are potentially good candidates as "Louisiana Purchase Trees".
I imagine there's gotta be a better way to determine the tree's age than counting rings. Maybe somebody else can answer that one?
