Acquired during the offseason to fill in the hole left with the tragic passing of promising rookie Oscar Taveras, Heyward was off to a great start as the Cardinals faced division rival Chicago Cubs in a national telecast. One could not have asked for a better start from the outfielder, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and a stolen base. Two of his three hits were doubles.

CHICAGO (AP) — Jason Heyward got the first hit of the new major league season, a double in the first inning for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night.
Maybe a change of scenery [for Heyward] was just what the doctor ordered.

The St. Louis Cardinals have stitched memorial patches honoring former outfielder Oscar Taveras, who died in a car crash last October.
In February, it was announced that the Cardinals would wear an "OT" patch on their 2015 regular season uniforms.

The Chicago Cubs held a moment of silence ahead of their Opening Night game against the St. Louis Cardinals to honor Cubs legend Ernie Banks and former Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras.
Banks died in January at 83. Taveras was killed in an October car crash in the Dominican Republic.

He will have a career year sandwiched between Carpenter and Holliday. He is not a lead off hitter.

I agree. I have a good feeling about his presence with the Cardinals

I was excited to see it...cards were missing this piece last year

Jesus, it's one game. 1 of the 3 hits was a bloop Pop fly that should have been caught. The dude had 2...TWO extra base hits the whole spring. Not sayin he won't hit, BUT ITS ONE GAME!!!

I think you could be just a little more butthurt.

One game in and I'm already a genius believing Hayward was destined for the HOF once he got that cardinals jersey rocking

Let's see what he's doing after a month or two.
There were still a lot of missed opportunities left on the base pads last night. Opening game and all, but this entire lineup needs to hit better, not just one guy.

Heyward went 2-5 with a 3-run HR in his MLB debut against the Cubs. He may go on to have a career year, because that's what former Braves do when they are traded to the Cardinals.
But it is just one game... and Jason still stands 4 feet off the plate.
Weak troll attempt.

I wish Heyward the best this year, he was put in a difficult situation in ATL and asked to do a lot of different things and just didn't produce enough to justify his upcoming contract. He is in a better situation now and hopefully he will take advantage of it.

JHey was my favorite player and I wish him nothing but the best. I hated to see him traded but I would've been really sick when he left as a free agent for a massive deal and ATL would've gotten nothing in return.

Whoa! You, sir, are most certainly mad. Calm down. Take a breath.
Also remember that EVERY GAME is an important game for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Cardinal players, and the Cardinals fans.

Awesome, I hope nothing but the best for him (except when he plays the Braves).

Heyward can never change Taveras was a drunk murderer.

Your troll attempt is not only weak...but classless. Cardinals fans rise above ignorance and ill-bred motives.
