After reading all the articles about the messy divorce between Chavis and LSU, do you think Chavis' in game coaching of the defense during the bowl game with Notre Dame was directly impacted?

I think we all were confused how Notre Dame was moving the ball and scoring almost at will against LSU''s defense. I know I was. If Chavis was pissed about his proposed contract, he may not have had the "want" during the game to make any needed adjustments.

I remember when Les was asked during his post game conference what his thoughts were about the rumors of Chavis leaving, he replied " I don't give a damn." Les may have known that something was not right with the defensive calling that game.

I am convinced that Chavis knew he was leaving. I just hope he had the integrity to play it out to the end on a professional level instead of "giving up" or not giving it his best during the game. But all these lawsuits makes me wonder.

1. Sumlin's Pool boy tweeted that Sumlin was on the phone with their future DC
2. Sumlin later confirmed pool boy was correct and he was on the phone with John Chavis
3. Tweet occurred the day of the bowl game.

Enough said.

He mailed it in.He went through the motions nothing more.I have lost a lot of respect for him because of that.He left his players hang out to dry long before the bowl game.

I had forgotten about the pool boy story when I made my post. That just tells me that Chavis' head was not in the game and he probably did not care. But you would think his competitive juices or his professionalism would have carried through the bowl game.

The team should still have won the game, even if Chavis mailed it in. It's not as though he didn't show up and took all the playbooks.

I have also lost a lot of respect for him as a coach.

The conversation between chavis and sumlin on the day of the game was not their first phone call. If chavis had any respect for his players, LSU or Les Miles he should have told any perspective employer that he would talk to them after the bowl game. That did not happen so I have nothing but ill feelings for the man.

Its important to remember we are all watching this through the gift of hindsight.

At the time the players didn't know Chavis didn't care about winning that game, and they trusted the man to do call the best plays.

He failed at that, and i think his lack of effort for his own players more than anything soured me on Chavis.

At least we know LSU has a good chance when the game is on the line and the offense needs a score on its last possession.

Chavis did a bad job keeping this under wraps before the bowl game. Personally, I wish he wasn't even there coaching in the game because the players were the ones who were psychologically hurt by his presence.

this thread doesn't exactly seem to be whiny. further, there's a high-profile suit going on about a direct extension of this thread: that Chavis was actively working for another team while still under contract with LSU. as far as LSUFB conspiracies go, this one seems to have teeth. why shouldn't that be of interest, given that the offense did their part and the defense came up short, coinciding with the fact that Chavis was on the phone with sSumlin that very day before the game and landed in a private plane with Sumlin only two days after? all that lines up pretty strongly with Chavis having done a shite job of calling the D and being a deceitful scumbag.

Or he should he left after regular season so LSU could have opened the candidate pool, my guess is Muschamp would have begged to come back.

So what about the Arkie game... The D did its job and the offense came up short.[VERY SHORT].

Maybe that was what broke the camels back.. Chavis was tired of coaching a strong D when the offense was VERY ineffective almost every game against quality teams... NOW what he did during the time leading up to the bowl game was way wrong. I agree. But these players had played he whole year. They had their chances against ND, But it looked to me like it was the same D that played against MSU and AU........And at that point Chavis wasn't going anywhere... Bottom line is that it looks like some LSU fans just are looking for something to continue to cry about.. They are the most spoiled fanbase in the country.... I watched the whole game and it looked like the D showed up and was playing the best they could. ND just outsmarted LSU's D... IMO the outcome would have been the same had Chavis NOT done anything with A & M........

I'm not saying Chevis' attitude has zero impact on the outcome, but what are the examples that lead to this conclusion? Lack of adjustments? Lineups? Play call? Where did he error?

Biggest impact IMO is may he didn't prep as much as usual, IDK.

Still, we could have won the game on multiple occasions.
