The annual Die Hard is not a Christmas movie thread

Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It's the reason he's there, it's a theme between him and Carl Winslow, it's a theme of the movie and it is not interchangeable.

I agree. A movie taking place at a certain time doesn't necessarily make it a "______ movie".

It might be my favorite Christmas movie. That, or Home Alone.

Right - a reason for McClane to be in from out of town and a few Christmas props. Plus, the office Christmas party is a reason for everyone to be in the building after hours. Obviously, Hans' intel that the party would afford him the opportunity to take hostages is related to this as well. But any gathering, celebration would have sufficed.

But, neither Christian observances/traditions/themes nor Santa Claus involvement played any significant role in the plot of the film.

While it may be appropriate for Christmas watching, precisely because of the setting, it is not a Christmas film in the same way that Miracle on 34th Street, The Santa Clause, Scrooged, are.

Now - start a thread on why Home Alone isn't a Christmas movie... (MUCH bigger argument there - )

Angel (supernatural involvement) coupled with the setting on Christmas Eve - in effect, it is a reverse Scrooge parable - Scrooge sees what his life was, is and will be if he doesn't change, while George Bailey sees what others' lives had been if he wasn't there.

I say Christmas, primarily because of supernatural, implicitly Christian in nature, involvement.

While I'll agree here that it is not truly a christmas movie, it's true value lies in the fact that when you call it a christmas movie it annoys the living shite out of women.

I call it a Christmas movie for purely trollish reasons. Fun to see people get their jimmies rustled.

It IS a Christmas allegory.

Bruce Willis represents Santa in this movie - a Santa who had lost his way to booze and loose living whilest getting caught up in the job.

This costs him his wife, Ms. Santa, and the respect of his elves (the people at the party).

As Christmas rolls around that fateful 1980's night, that first scent of egg nog and Christmas delight awakens the flame that was kindling in John's soul, a fire that exposed that gaping hole.

He crossed the world for his love only to be surprised by greed from above.

As he shimmied a crawled through that scraper so high, he was bound and determined to draw oh so nigh, to save his girl held by capitalist pigs who laughed and gloated whilest smoking their cigs.

Who's that? A lawyer, a scribe, to save the day. No no no, as we watch his brains spray.

It was john all along who would kill this scrouge in fun, ho ho ho he now has a machine gun.

What's that? You gonna trap Santa's arse? that commie didn't know, that Santa walks on glass.

And just when that Capitalist greedy scum thinks his will get his gold...John comes at him oh so bold.

Oh look! Scrouge has Ms. Santa OH that man is WHACK.

Santa laughs "Yippy ki yah MO FO scope out my back!"

Ms Clause, inspired, stomps on Scrooges toe as he is met with bullets and plummets below.

Death claims another and the commie falls...

Santa got his MO JO back Merry Christmas to all.

I watch Anchorman every Christmas Eve. It's a tradition unlike any other.


So I can't say Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie.
