She wasn't even involved in the traffic stop. Check out his reaction time after he was stabbed. Just goes to show you the difference in action vs reaction. Glad he's ok.

Lucky he had his vest on and that she didn't go for the neck.

Excellent example of how wearing your vest can also help prevent injury from edged weapons. He would have been 100% justified in the use of lethal force but decided to use less than lethal force to subdue her.

Hope she rots in jail.

Never worked a single shift on patrol that I didn't wear mine. They're awful in summertime heat in LA but wasn't going to take the risk. Thankfully I don't have to wear one everyday anymore.

Yep, neck or head would've almost certainly been fatal. He'll think of this stop on every subsequent one he makes in his career. IMO its a great example to many on this board of the inherent dangers associated with the job. Sure, we all signed up for it knowing full well what those dangers entailed but that doesn't make it any less scary

So if he would've shot the woman who just stabbed him in the back and then precedes to chase after him with a bladed object he would've been a bad cop?

Yeah but we don't see what happened prior to the video clip so I'm going to withold judgment until all the facts come out.

no, I agree with the other poster, he'd have been perfectly justified in shooting and killing his attacker

what I mean is that we hear all the time about cops that use excessive force in non-life-threatening situations; a cop that would show this level of restraint despite clearly being in a life-threatening situation deserves a lot of praise and credit. guy's a model cop IMO

agreed. in the heat if the moment, he made the critical decision to not fire his gun since the family in the vehicle was in the line of fire.

Damn. She was coming after him again with the scissors. Too bad she wasn't shot (and I'm typically not in the side of cops when they use lethal force)

She should be lucky and happy that he didn't waste an entire clip on her
